Why would people want to hoard small silver to buy bread? They should learn how to bake to earn silver, no?
I've long said that if our monetary system breaks down, people won't need silver to make purchases, they'll need guns and ammo to protect what they have.
Hey now, I said I "thought it might be"; not "it should be". Keep these discussions to the bullion forum! I'd go fishing. I really don't think my neighbors are going to turn into larcenous lunatics. I think people, on average, actually have higher morals than most believe. Thus, chances are they would work together to make sure everyone is provided for indefinitely rather than rob each other to get by temporarily.
OH NO, ANOTHER SIMILARITY!! I've been interested in early Canadian copper and German coins for quite a while now, but never really made the leap. But selling off my entire US set, this is never going to happen.
LOL ! Yup, said that myself many times over many years. Then I did it The power of the dark side shall win !!!
I did sell off one of my favorite nickels recently. It was an offer that I just couldn't refuse and was nearly five times what I had in it. Some fool really wanted it just because it is a Coinfacts image.
What about those that AREN'T your "neighbors". And don't count out those neighbors if a collapse comes and you are well stocked while many of them aren't. You may find that the many that aren't set up will work together to make sure they are provided for at your expense.
I suggest that what people will need, and do need, are a very particular set of skills, skills that you may have acquired over a very long career, skills that make you a nightmare for people like "them".
