What's the worst insulting coin deal any dealer has seriously offered you?

Silver was up to $14.50, 9.5 to 10x face. I take in some silver to sell and the dealer offers me 4.5x face. He was very surprised when I declined his offer. Came home and sold it for 9.5x in 30 minutes.

1955 Poorman's Double Die when I was 16, dealer tried to pass it off as the "valuable" 55 ddo.

Showed me value in Coin Prices (if I remember correctly) and said he'd sell me the one he had (which was AU) for 190-

He knew I had the money because I was a baseball card collector at the time and had just sold a guy he recommended me to 3 89 Griffey UD rookies and the 1990 Frank Thomas Leaf. (when it was still valuable haha)

So basically, he helped me out and then tried to screw me outta some of the money.

I took a roll of UNC 1883-O Morgans to one of the local dealers to sell. He offered me $50.00 for the roll and I haven't been in his shop since.

I didn't know any better at the time and would have bought the coin had it not been for the swimming pool I was planning on buying haha.

If it were now, I would likely have assaulted him for trying to rip me off that blatantly. It was like a slap in the freakin face.

I've seen some stupid stuff but I guess the worst personal was a $50 error note that I got in circulation. Fred Bart, the big error dealer offered my $75. This was at a show and all I did was ask him what it might retail at. He just saw $$ signs.

I saw an almost identical note at a show a few months later for $600. A different dealer but you get my gist. I will NEVER deal with Fred Bart.

As for coins I had a guy offer me a straight trade. I give him 2 1999 Silver Proof sets for 2 of his 2001 Silver proof sets. Hey, both have done well but the 99 is worth double the 01.

I said no to both of these people by the way.

I can think of an insulting (to the seller) offer i have made...

Pick one of the crooked coin shows on satellite or cable, I thin it may have been Coin Country I dont know.......but they had some random morgans up for sale, outageously priced of course, but they werent selling. They asked for offers, so I looked them up in here, ebay and best coin and made my offer.

You should have heard the quiet when I made the offer to the operator. After a long pause she came back and said " sir, I dont think we cac accept such an offer" To which I replied, "I'll go and spend that amount on ebay and get the same deal or better then"

    ok..so I am a little naughty :D they were professional :D

I think it has to be SilverTowne's Presidential Dollar program.
    Singles are $3.95.
    Rolls of 10 are $37.00.
    A complete roll is $49.95.

If someone enrolls in this program can we assume they just aren't aware that the US Mint sells coins?

I had a PCGS MS70 2006 W $50 gold coin and the guys at the local coin show offered me whatever the price of gold was at that time. A few of them offered me that.

I was at a local show and a guy offered me an SGS MS-70 lincoln, go figure, for about $500, a whole $495 more than it was worth. When I told him what SGS was and what they peddled he lowerd the price, to $400. I just walked away from the table without even saying another word.

Wow ... how to pick 'the worst' ... after all these years. Can I just offer the most recent? A dealer was viewing some of my world currency I was trying to trade or sell and offered me $20 for a $60 valued note with the standard lame 'you know, it's not unc, and there is no demand for this type stuff so I'll give you the standard exchange rate since it's still in circulation.' I told him the current exchange was about 60 to 65 cents on the dollar... which made it $32 in US money ... and said 'we're gonna have to close that gap a bit more' ... how about you recalculate while I go try to wipe the 'schmuck' off my forehead before someone else makes the same mistake?

Very nice photos, but taken under a strange yellowish light to obviously hide the harsh cleaning that I can see even through the lighting, especially if you look for the parallel scratches on the barber face. On the wingtips, and headband you can also see the faintest sign of wear, meaning at best this is an AU piece cleaned and a $90-100 coin as opposed to a $1400 coin.
