My favourite seller has had this Gordian III in his coin-stable for years ... but something made it extra alluring today (ummm sure, perhaps the big glass full of Kraken may have tipped the scales?) ... regardless ...

=> I asked him for his best price and he gave me $33 US (delivered!!)

Yup for years I've been gazing at it and now it's comin' home to Papa!!

... I think this humble lil' fella will fit in nicely with my coin clan

Oh, ahahaha => yes you're totally correct (but the price-tag and the toning and the Kraken all lined-up perfectly)

=> so "Shabammm" => I took the shot

Kind of funny too, because although the Gordie-III's are among the most common types, I didn't have a decent AR example of Gordon, so I decided this baby was a nice fit

Oh, and I'm gonna call it "Roach" from now on ... it fits nicely, eh?

    Cheers, coin bro

    emoticon cheers too.gif

Apparently my sweet lil' roach is tucked somewhere in this pile of misc-coins

Yup, good ol' "Roach" was among 61 other roach buddies in this CNG group-lot ...

    https://cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=206745

So, quick-math tells me that my seller made a few bucks on this roach-flip, but I certainly think that "Roach" was a slick Saturday purchase (he has already become one of my more popular recent purchases)

=> man, I love coining!! (this stuff never gets old, eh?

I suspect Roach was the pick of the litter there. Good hefty flan, great old toning and a nice price to boot... winner!

Here's one of mine to celebrate Roach joining the X6 Collection...

Doesn't look like the seller made out well on this lot (although the goal may not have been profit). The type and condition of the pictured coins doesn't look very good. Maybe your GIII was one of the better coins. $33... gotta love those GIIIs :) Great bang for the buck.

Gordian III (238-244), one of those sad young emperors, died 19 years old on the battlefield in Persia (probably, the scientists are divided). He had to pay his soldiers, therefore he minted so many silver coins. "Gordian's youth and good nature, along with the deaths of his grandfather and uncle and his own tragic fate at the hands of the enemy, earned him the lasting esteem of the Romans" says Wikipedia.

I have three Greek Romans of him, one of Odessos (25 mm, 10,6 gr.) showing Gordian with Serapis and Nemesis on the reverse, one of Marcianopolis (27 mm, 14 gr.). Gordian with Serapis again, but with Asclepius on the reverse, and Nicaea (Bithynia, 20 mm, 3,1 gr.). On the reverse two legionary eagles between two standards, crowned with two model quadrupeds.
