In the mail today TRAJAN AR Denarius, Rome mint IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM, laureate head right P M TR P COS II P P, Vesta seated left, veiled, holding patera & torch RIC 9, RSC 203, Sear 3143 3.05 g, 19mm Post anything Trajan!
Nice Trajan to build on your collection Evan8, I have a few mainly AE, I will just post this one of a temple that doesn't have any trace left nowadays, except one huge column buried underground that is still visible if you take a tour of Palazzo Valentini in Rome, that takes you underground to see ancient dwellings going back to 1st century AD, and opens up to below ground level close up view of Trajan's column, well worth seeing if ever visiting Rome. Ae Dupondius, struck 107-108 AD, 27mm, 11.81gm. RIC II 576.
I've always found Trajan coins to be very enjoyable, and your new coin is no different. The look on his portrait is like he's making a funny face.
Evan => congrats on your cool new OP-addition Trajan? ... okay, I have a few that haven't been out for a while ...
Two I like are the early, early issue when the mint had not yet figured out that Trajan did not look like Nerva: and a reverse honoring the building of the Via Traiana. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_Traiana
A few AE's of Trajan that you don't see very often. Cilicia, Laertes. Trajan Æ21. Demeter seated Obv: Laureate head right. Cool and funny portrait on that one, Evan8. My favorites are the ones with the Dacians on the reverse smacking their foreheads - "Bloody hell, not Trajan again!"
