It's built from a stack of wood. All from scratch. It's my first try at building one but I have had the help of a guy who does it for a living.

That's impressive Alde. You must have a pretty excellent woodshop to build that from scratch. Can you use just any wood you have lying around or did you have to buy a certain kind?

I enjoy building stuff out of wood but I made the mistake of moving to a place that didn't have a good woodshop set up the last time I moved for work and all my friends have since "borrowed" all my tools from storage. :shifty:

@alde , I love to fish! But, wow, I have no musical talent, and no way I could build a musical instrument! What a talent!

In reality the only one I need out of those is the one on the right, a Winchester Model 1894 actually made by Winchester in America when we actually still manufactured things in this country (not one of the modern replicas made by different foreign manufacturers today) and chambered in .30-30. A quick rack of the lever does all the talking you need. Mine is gold plated from the factory. Not sure how that helps with the firing though, but you do have to admit it looks sharp.

After that, the Zastava AK-47 from Yugoslavia is my favorite (the compact AK-47 all the way to the left). Sweet little gun.

But for intimidation factor, can't beat that antique Serbian SKS in the middle, complete with bayonet and grenade launcher.

The all black rifle is a Saiga AK 47 made in Russia, in hunting rifle configuration. I originally bought it for $300 only 6 years ago, but today they are worth north of $3,000 as they are now illegal to import into the US.

And the second from the right is a beast of a rifle, a Romania PSL sniper rifle chambered in 7.62x54R, with original military sniper scope. I bought it for $500 many years back, but these days they don't seem to be available anymore and when they appear for sale, it's sometimes north of $2,500.

Sweet, I didn't know you were into swords and all. I'm actually shopping for a good Gladius replica made out of high quality steel and to original dimensions and weight. You can buy a cheapo mass produced one for $100 but it just doesn't look right and the balance is all off.

I'm also thinking about ordering a bronze sword from an expert in England that makes them to speck and using original methods.

Plus eventually I'd like to collect ancient artifacts. Problem is with my budget I can only do one hobby at a time. I may wait until I have 150+ ancient coins before taking a break from acquiring coins in order to pursue artifacts. I will still be active in the ancient coins community even if I do take a break to go after the ancient artifacts, so no worries, I won't dissapear to nowhere. I'm here in cointalk ancients for the long term.

Thank you for the kind words.

It is special wood. The back and sides are made from East Indian Rosewood, the top is Italian Alpine Spuce and the binding is Hawaiian Koa. The most expensive piece was the top at $200. My friend the builder helped me chose it and just the plain wood sounded like a drum even before it was thickness sanded.
