Domitian the Good Son?

Recently I was able to acquire a fairly rare Domitian denarius struck in the first few months of his reign. Before landing in my PO box, it apparently toured the Eastern Seaboard for a couple of weeks. I'm glad it finally made it 'home'.

    AR Denarius, 3.15g
    Rome Mint, 81 AD
    RIC 72 (R2), BMC - , RSC 575a
Obv: IMP CAES DIVI VESP F DOMITIAN AVG P M; Head of Domitian, laureate, bearded, r.
Rev: TR P COS VII DES VIII P P; Seat, draped; above, winged thunderbolt

The reverse is a carry-over pulvinaria type from Titus' coinage with an added touch of filial piety on the obverse. The 'DIVI VESP F' in the obverse legend is a scarce variant not often seen on Domitian's denarii. This is only the second denarius with the legend variant I've been able to obtain.

Very nice Domitian David! I really like his coins but they are scarcer as provincials.

I've said this before. You and @Okidoki always surprise me with new variants of your collection objectives. Just when I think either of you must have all there is to find, you show up with another. Great find and nice coin David.

It's odd that the hold up was not with 'ISC NY', but after the package entered the domestic mail stream. At any rate, Domitian is safe and sound in his new paper envelope home.
