A Sestertius of Nerva

I have been looking for a while for a sestertius of Nerva to expand my small collection of Bronzes of this emperor. This one appealed to me.

This example of RIC 80 shows hands clasped on reverse holding a legionary eagle set on galleys prow (not visible on this example). This motif refers to harmony between the Senate, the Roman Army and the Navy on the occasion of Nerva's adoption of M. Ulpius Trajanus as his heir.

    Nerva. AD 96-98. Æ Sestertius (22.22 g). Rome mint. Struck AD 97.
Obv: IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS III P P, laureate head right
Rev: CONCORDIA EXERCITVVM, S C across lower field, clasped right hands, holding aquila set on prow.

    RIC II 80

The coin has been smoothed (but acceptably, imo) and is struck slightly off-center, with lightly raised rims visible on parts of the obverse and corresponding area of the reverse (as though lightly hammered).

Not in top shape, obviously, but enough remaining detail, and pleasant deep emerald green patina.

    Your opinions are greatly welcome!

And... please post your coins of Nerva! - an Emperor we do not see too often on the forum.

Terrific OP and very nice posts guys!!

I wanted a couple of inexpensive 'bronze' examples to complement my denarius so I grabbed this Dupondius and AS:

Thank you for posting your Nervas, guys. Really great coins:).

Interestingly, if you look at variety of portraits in the coins you have all posted one notices a certain uniformity in the facial traits of Nerva. Mat's didrachm from Cappadocia, on the other hand shows an interesting different style.

Excellent sestertius! Mine is only a dupondius so half as good at best but what this thread suggests is the more common type for that denomination.

Great symbolic coin Eduard, I have the other two Ae of this type, the Dupondius being scarce as only struck for a short period in 96 AD. 000577_l.jpg 20160818_082927.jpg
