So, last night I was hungry and decided to go to Mcdonald's since it's only a block away. Was getting my stuff together to leave and remembered the change I had gotten from my dealer the other day.

So, I grabbed a 2 dollar bill, 2 1 dollar silver certificates and some mixed old change I had.

Went to Mcdonald's and paid my total ($4.21) with the 2$ bill and 1 dollar silver cert. plus 2 merc. dimes and a steelie wheat cent.

After 15 minutes of the money being "checked out", the currency returned to circulation and I enjoyed (okay maybe not) some "delicious" mickey d's food.

Maybe it'll get out there for someone to find and enjoy.

LOL. Good story. I hope someone enjoys the currency more than the "dollar menu"

    oh man.
I would have split it up into multiple purchases, but yeah.

recently I just put 20 wheaties (dirty, and damaged), into a roll of cents which I'll take to the bank soon.

I once bought a wheat collection that contained about 100 common wheats. They were all cleaned. I thought, what am I going to do with these? Well, I spent them. I figured someone would find them sooner or later and it would make someones day

sorry, I am a black hole when it comes to coinns, they come in, but never leave. What I don't keep goes to the kids, and they keep everything.

I can't bear to spend a wheat cent, much less a merc. I can't even spend Canadian coins. :(

i'd rather keep my old coins for my collection. there are enough "dumb" people that find rolls of wheat cents their grandpal gave them and take them to the bank.

I usually buy 2 rolls of the Presidential Dollars from the bank and keep one for collection and then spend the other or use them as tips at my local hangout. I am doing my part to put them in circulation!

    I hoard nearly everything.
I even keep late 1990's and early 2000's, if they have a good strike and nice eye appeal.

I like that term "Black Hole" I'm a complete black hole for anything that is obsolete/uncurrent. I also hoard 1959 and older nickels.

I too like to occationally put some old coins back into circulation. Usually the really common Wheat Cents. I go to my bank and get 4 to 10 rolls of halves and have fun spending them. Lots of strange looks on people's faces. $2 bills give me trouble though. Hold up lines in stores while they call for a head check out person. And I'll never, ever try spending those baby sized dollars again. At a restaurant I left a few of them for a tip and the waitress said rather loundly, "Sir, you left some of your kids play money on the table". They attempted to refuse me entrance to a flea market when I tried to use one. Also, holds up lines in stores while they have to have them checked. No, I'll stick to regular bills.

About 10 years ago, I guy I worked with let me have about $15 avg circ $1 Silver Certs. About 10 of them were rags. I had GREAT FUN spending them at local WAWA stores here in NJ...

You should have seen the teenie cashiers trying to get the attention of the manager (while trying to stall me)
to "catch" me trying to pass these unfamiliar notes as counterfeit..... The Managers were equally perplexed!! Great Fun!!!

I may just go buy a couple dozen of these for 3 or 4 dollars each, just to goof on them again!!!!

And the notes just might spark a new collector.......

I may just go buy a bunch of VG like Silver Certs, just to do this again..... GREAT FUN

Darn it happened to me again. Only this time with half dollars. I occationally go have breakfast with a bunch of people I know. Same restaurant all the time and the same waitress now for years. I always leave 3 half dollar coins for a tip. This morning she said rather nicely "Please stop with the stupid half dollars". She did explain she too has trouble getting rid of them and must go to a bank just to get rid of them. No one wants them she said. Well I had to stop with the baby dollars and the $2 bills so now I have to stop with the halves. No one wants that stuff.

I gave the kid at the Micky D's drive thru $7 of halves the other day.
His jaw nearly fell out of the window and he acted like he needed help to lift them.

I've never had any problem getting rid of halves. I do love the reactions though. One girl at the gas station I go to every day said "aren't these worth money?" I said yeah, about fifty cents. At another gas station I paid for something with like 6 or 7 halves, and as I walked out the door I heard the girl exclaim triumphantly to her co-worker "I got half dollars!" I enjoy it.

If the waitress doesn't like getting tips, then stop leaving them. Or, you can just go to another restaurant.

I have never been turned down when paying cash, be it with halves, $2 bills, dollar coins, or even mutiliated coins (which they rightfully should be able to refuse).

she's obviously going to the wrong places - or places with people who dont like them.

tell her how much a roll of halves is (20 halves), and when she accumulates that many, cash them in at the bank - its much easier than a few at a time.

and tell her I said so!
