Does anyone know if there is any numismatic value to the Lincoln Kennedy cent? I found it on google but I'm only finding the story behind it. I like it but not enough to overpay for it. FYI the one being offered to me is not on this card but it is the same type coin.
Those were not produced by the US Mint. They are damaged due to counterstamping. I wouldn't buy them, but, IMO, any price over 50 cents is too much.
Only to those who do not understand "numismatic value." It's a damaged coin, worth less "numismatically" than one which is not damaged. I'm putting all that in quotes because there are those purchasers who assign values according to the thing's personal appeal to themselves rather than any objective standard. Which is a nice way of saying you can, in fact, fool some of the people all of the time. Added to which, there are a bazillion of these counterstamps kicking around. They're hardly "rare."
My dad has one of these in his small personal collection, I think he got it when he was in his 20s. Not worth much but I always thought it was pretty neat!
I always wanted one. So when the opportunity arose I bought one at a flea market for $3.00... Hey, it was also a Misaligned Die Strike! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lincoln-and-kennedy-cent-counterstamp.288683/
I have one that was posted a few months back here on CT. These were done in the mid 60's after Kennedy assassination . Later others were done with all sorts of different types of logos. Mine is priceless as my uncle gave it to me. He later died a few years later. He was also a coin collector and sparked my interest . The coin in question as well as copper plated 43 cent I still have in the 2x2 he put them in. Neat item value not much unless given by someone special
Yeah you can't put a monetary value on something with that kind of sentimental value. I'll hold onto it because it's pretty neat. I see some on eBay with the masons compas stamped in them but this one is cooler. A guy at work had a bag of coins with that and some LWC, LMC, us mint presidential medals and loose steelies from the 40s? I thought they were coated but they feel to have the same weight as the 43. I'll have to look into them more and post pics on here later tonight. But I had no idea what the medals were and may give him a few more bucks on Monday.
