I found it!!!! 1990 No S mint mark Lincoln cent? How can you tell?

How do you even tell if you really have a coin that does not have a S on it?

Your coin clearly doesn't have an "S" on it...That being said, it is just a normal Philly business strike...

 

One would actually just look at it!!

 

The best place to start, sir, would be to familiarize yourself with the differences between proof and business strikings. The 90-S shown above appears to be the latter, meaning it's not the coin you had hoped it to be, which would be a proof. As for the 68 dime, I can only assume the same; that your coin, unfortunately, is a business strike from Philadelphia that also, correctly, displays no mintmark.

 

Did you take an eraser to the coin?

 

Give him time. He's trying to make it look like a proof!

It's probably safe to say what you're looking at is either some sort of damage or other insignificant anomaly, but the only way for anyone to truly assist you is to post clear photos of your coin.

You mentioned a 1990 penny with a possible issue with the date.
That picture appears to be a 1936 penny with some heavy damage.

Boy did I get a shock. I opened up "new posts" and saw this question with Markus1959 and TJ1952 posting and figured they were back on CT! I was going to PM the "duckman" and then saw the date of their posts.

 

Sad, isn't it? Two perfectly good and (generally) contributing members gone, at least in part, because of the same thing that regularly gets a pass here.

With over 99.999% certainty it's worth face. You're thinking of the 90-S no S proof, and while technically possible one could have been released into circulation, the chances of having one are nil.
