My Friend, my comment was of the highest compliment for the sacrifice that your Grandfather went through in WWI. And that the impact on your life with his generosity of giving you that coin is beyond measuring. The value as "immeasurable" means that it is worth everything! Yours is probably one of the greater stories that I have been told, and deeply touches me.
I think @Jwt708 meant his comment as hyperbole to emphasize how amazing the circumstances of the coins discovery really were. I can't even imagine the intense conditions your grandfather had to endure the day he found this coin and I'm sure, coin or no, he would have wanted to be elsewhere. Amazing!... At least that's the way I took the comment. I hadn't even considered that someone would have such an amazing provenance for one of their coins so I hadn't considered how it would fit in to the categories. Either way I knew I had to post this entry as I knew everyone would want to read about it I'm glad you shared this piece of family history with us @Cucumbor. This has been one of my favorite matches. ...and as Alegandron said, even if the cost was immeasurable, so is the value.
Terrific coins!! Wonderful write-ups! And I LOVE the story behind 'Q's sestertius...but I need more than 3 votes
Both coins are fantastic but I think Cucumbor's story is the best ancient coin story I have ever heard. John
Hey stevex6, can you rally around all your coin mates and get me at least another four votes, preferably five, I take back that crack about that you fired your best shot. That was a damn good horoscope coin that I voted for it's just a shame nobody liked it.
Hey @Ancient Aussie what is it about you're playing here ? First I've hired @stevex6 for the next five years, thus he's mine, not yours ! (he doesn't know yet but soon will) Plus I have about fifty french coin friends who are just willing to join CT and might well be kind enough to cast their vote for a compatriot Plus I might change my vote for your coin into three votes for mine (I stick to my word of voting one for each competitor when I'm involved, just for the pleasure of seeing the results) . Just jokes my friend, your coin is still awesome !! Q
Hahaha both of you guys are as awesome as your coins, my friends. Why do I have the feeling we are about to see a bunch of new French and Australian CT members Q - 84 AA - 79 Epic battle! No matter the final score I think we all win this one after getting to see your coins and read your write ups. Fantastic research
Ya, sorry @Cucumbor didn't mean any disrespect. War is hell. If I were gifted such a coin, it would be the crown of my collection, as I'm certain it is in yours!
No problem @Jwt708 I didn't see any disrespect in your words, we just didn't put my grandad's coin in the same pocket Q
Despite a fierce, odious and shameless campaign of denigration and destabilization coming from the opposite camp and their so-called allies, the people were not mistaken and new where the truth was ! 86-85 !!! That was very tough. Congrats to @Ancient Aussie for his come back at the end of the race. A bit too short this time my friend Thanks to @Curtisimo for one month of fun, good stories and wonderful coins And thank you to you all my coin friends on behalf of my grandad, he would have been very proud to see how his story has interested and moved all of you Q
