Hi all, I wanted to share my newest acquisition - This is a 1943 Steel Cent - Struck 5% Off Center Mint Error My First Off Center Steelie! Enjoy I started to get 1943 Cent errors since late 2016 and so far have the following.. Broadstruck, Partial Collar and Type-1 Blank
Very nice set your building on... Did you see the 2 I picked up last week? Both are ddo's and one is both an ddo and ddr.
A Belgian 1944 2-franc piece would be a cool addition to a small subset of steel cents, since the US Mint struck those for Allied-occupied Belgium as WW2 was winding down. They used leftover steel cent blanks for them, as you might have known. They're quite affordable, even in BU. A quick eBay search reveals several, though the NGC MS62 I saw is grossly overpriced. I'd buy a nice, lustrous BU and submit it myself, if I were into steel cents.
Yeah, those Belgian coins are "the forgotten steel cents". Made by our own US mint, on the same blanks. Part of WW2 history, around the time of the Battle of the Bulge. And totally affordable. There are lots of cool "Darkside" sleepers like that with lesser-known backstories.
Would love to hear about more of them. As much as I love coins, the story behind them is so important too!
