Which "Red Book" did you get? I was thinking the spiral bound one be cause then it would stay open to the page you are looking at.

Thanks for all the help and encouragement everyone! I'm thinking how nice it's going to be to sip on a cold beer and going on a treasure hunt through all my coins!

You got it Max! Fun with coins and beer....I think we can be friends , hey, one thing I'd like to suggest, I'm sure someone has mentioned a 10X loop or whatever you prefer. I'd like you to consider getting a small stereo microscope. You can find them for under $50, and one would really help save your eyes and neck when looking for those mint errors. I got one early on and man did it make a diff!

LOL, I have to use a magnifying glass now to read small print, so I think this is great advice.

Hee hee hee, you sound like me and probably 3/4 of the peeps on this site. I have to hold a dime just right to discern the date.......anything smaller and my arms aren't long enough. Not sure what your looking to spend, but there are a lot of good options out there for scopes that are very reasonable for what you are doing. PM (private message) me if you like more info. Like I said, be careful, this stuff is pretty addictive!:bored:

In addition to the Red Book suggested by others "Strike it Rich With Pocket Change" may be helpful. Happy hunting!

+1. And if you started saving change in 1965, there's a good chance you'll run into some Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes and Franklin halves.

Max. Dont worry. Some, not all of us are kinda snotty. Just look past it. Its best to ignore them. If you don't then you wont enjoy your time on this page.

Nah, just loosen up and don't be so sensitive. Really, look back at what was said before you revealed how hurt you were and see how reeeeeeeally bad it was. Stay awhile and you'll like it.

I have a huge collection of red books. I bought a set of about 24 at a estate sale a few years back. I have bought every one that I have come across since. My oldest is the 3rd edition. The 1949 edition. I now have over 70 Numismatic books in my collection.
