    son of Jupiter and Juno, rarely referred to on coins, God of fire, volcans, blacksmith, coin maker..Example of denarii reverses: Republic, CARISIA, cap of Volcan,anvil between tongs and hammer, Rome, 46BC, Empire VALERIAN Deo Volkano, standing with hammer and tongs, in temple, anvil at feet, Lyon or Cologne, 259/60 AD.

    That's a wonderful Deo Volkano. Mine looks like it spent a second or two in an actual volcano...

    Some very nice coins @PMONNEY

    These seen to be faked often. My first of this type was a fake which I was able to have refunded.

    Wow, @PMONNEY! Those are both fantastic!! The Carisius is hard to find in such relatively good condition and strike. The Valerian's Vulcan reverse is awesome-- I want one! :)

    Above is the most commonly see fake of this type. It is distinguished by the obverse centering and the edge nick at the left but it is always possible that a fake could be chipped up on the edges to conceil these characteristics. I bought the one above several years ago and was refunded by a dealer who since learned of the problem.

    It does seem that this type suffered poor wormanship more than most coins of Valerian. The example shown by PMONNEY is very nice for these.
