Would this be due deterioration doubling?

    Am I correct in that the only premium is carried by a true doubled die?

    Your question is a bit open-ended.

    If you mean that only doubled dies carry a premium
    over split copper-plating issues, I'd have to say Yes.

    Some, not all, of split-line doubling, like the OP's coin,
    carry a small premium to some interested collectors,
    but it's usually for a coin that shows alot more of the
    split line doubling. I would say that your cent doesn't
    have a premium, based on the photo above.

    Thanks for your help. I've been reading about all of the things that get mistaken for doubled dies and it's making me mental. To me I would think the pic here is a doubled die. Yes? No? image.jpg

    Not the best photo, but it looks like
    ejection/mechanical doubling to me.

    How long did it take you to get a good grasp on being able to tell the doubling features from one another?
