It takes a bunch of work to put together an NGC Custom Registry Set. But it's one of the easier ways to be able to show it. Here's my Capped Bust Quarters/Reduced Size (1831-38) set of die pair varieties: http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/wcm/CoinCustomSetView.aspx?s=23048 Currently there are 4 coins missing from the set but I have 2 of them coming. That'll make 34 out of the 36. As for the last 2 -- well, I'm not going to hold my breath.
Uh oh!!! I just spotted one of the two CBQ's I'm missing. The problem? With the buyer's fee added in the reserve is $5000. Maybe I'll get into the bidding and not eat for a year
I considered selling my wife but after checking eBay, older used wives just don't bring that much. But in the real world I DO have some duplicates that I'm getting ready to list/sell. But they'll have to be a retro thing (spend money now then refill the coffer later). I have less than a week to get my bid in -- and of course there's nothing saying I'll win.
Not that long. 2 to 3 years (VF/XF mostly with one F details). If I had gone for AU or better I most likely would still be working on it.
Glad to see my old 1837 B-3 has a good home. This is a great set. Are you going to work on upgrades next? By the way, the 1834 B-2 in your set has the wrong photos. I pursued this set in F/VF for 2 years and had about 75% of the varieties, but then decided I enjoyed it so much I wanted to complete it in AU and I started over. Since then, I've been working on the AU set for 4 years and I'm at 15/36. The problem with the AU set is availability. Most available examples are lower grades, and there seem to be more MS coins out there than there are in AU; although I am still picky. At the prices nice AUs can command, I want to make sure I'm getting an eye appeal/rarity mix good enough that I won't easily upgrade the coin later.
Okay, error corrected. And I added the two that I had but hadn't inserted. Now I'm showing 34 (of 36).
I'm behind on taking photos of some of my newer varieties, but I've got a date set up on the NGC registry here. I should be able to get to #2 once I cross a couple coins, but the #1 slot is out of reach as there's a great MS date set up there.
When NGC stopped awarding points for PCGS coins I just removed ALL of my Registry Sets. I had 10-12 sets listed. My 1793-1964 Type Set was #15 at the time. I'm doing Custom Sets now so there's no stress trying to move up. And no cost trying to do crossovers They stand alone. BTW, it appears NGC won't crossover a PCGS coin at the same grade. The two companies definitely don't like each other.
Well, it doesn't really come as a surprise to me. I got outbid on Heritage for the 1836 Bust Quarter, B-5, High R.6, Fine 12 NGC. It's the second rarest for the Reduced Size variety. Yeh, I could continue bidding on it BUT after that I'd be reduced to collecting LMC's out of circulation for a LONG while.
