Yes but that post was yesterday. I imagine that the counterfeit war nickels are worth more then the genuine war nickels. And that most of the ones with no visible mint mark are either worn down by circulation, PMD or a greaser. ( Other than fakes.) I like the silver war nickels and I would love to have a fake one.

Oh. Got it now. The counterfeits were made of copper/nickel. I have not seen 1943's but the 1944's pop up around here occasionally as they were made in Cleveland Ohio, not too very far away. When I have the opportunity, I usually pay $5 each.
Looks like the mint mark has just worn away. It's prob. 35% silver is my guess. I don't think it is counterfeit (which would be worth more).
First of all, this thread was made 12 years ago. Second of all, there's a contemporary counterfeit known as a Henning nickel that matches the description.
