Same here. Im not even going to bother with these. I can think of alot of other coins I'd rather have for the money.

    jefferson first spouse

I agree Indian Head i looked up the other three in the 4 coin series on, various sites and, graded in 69 there only $ 605 ,but theres a bit more in 70 grade but we probably wouldnt get that grade if we sent them in. and they cost from the mint about $400.00

Go with your gut felling and get one ,you dont want to regret it if you dont get one you can always sellit on ebay for more than you buy it from the u s mint i belive that this coin will alway enjoy a high demand

    rare spouse gold

not even true. let's check the 10,000 mintage for reverse proof american eagle one ounce gold. it is 100% mark up more or less. while that of current spouse gold. at 20,000 mintage. the mark up should be around 50% for 3rd spouse. and only 25 - 33% mark up for ist , second & fourth spouses. and the rest of spouses will be somewhere near bullion value. because the mintage is expected to increase. i estimate it will be around 50,000 - 100,000. well, if the mintage for gold coin is 5,000 more or less. then the price can be going up several times. example - the 1997 jackie robinson commemorative gold coin. mintage at 5,202. current retail price at $5,750.00.

Elaine, I think it is important to look at each coin as a seperate issue with these. For instance the UNC is a high mintage of you compare it to past commemorative coins, but the proof coins are not high mintage.

None of the gold eagle proofs have sold at less than 20,000 mintage.
Also I believe none of the commemorative proofs have sold at less than 20,000.

The only proof gold coin to have less than 20,000 was the reverse proof eagle if my numbers are accurate.

So that is why I see the proofs being the ones to collect if one wants this series.

I agree than the UNC will probably drop in mintage in later years unless gold prices soar, and the proof should hold over 20,000 if people return to buying at normal splits. The problem this year is the mint minted the coins with the two options split 50/50. Had they done it 35/65 then this would be more of a normal release.

As a coin collector and not investor, I'd like to get this even if it doesn't go up in value at all. If I can't manage to get through, will at least get the bronze medal of it. Just love the design of this one.

    you got some good point

but then, the gold coin can not move very high as compare to silver coin. first: the cost is quite high. second the collectors for gold coin are very few as compared to silver. if i got 25% to 50% profit on gold coin. i would be very happy.

My guess is it was part of the run on the Mint to buy up bullion given that the Mint is clearing its shelves of some coins. All the AGEs, APEs, and Buffalos are also sold out now.

Aren't they mandated by Congress? Meaning, the Mint has no say in whether to stop them or not?

    Morons

:rolling:OK, Let me begin by saying that the CS reps at the mint are all morons (or at least the ones I just spoke with). :computer: I placed a call to them just a few minutes ago to confirm everything that is happening with no gold or platinum products being available. Just the other day I placed an order for the Jackson Spouse and I wanted to confirm the observations on this thread and to make sure that I was still receiving the coin.

So here were my three questions that I had and the following responses:

    1. Me to CS rep - I noticed that many of the FS coins are no longer available and I just placed my order the other day, I just wanted to make sure that I am going to be able to receive my coin. CS rep to me - sir I need to confirm your info (which I expected, and we did) CS rep to me - sir your billing address is not matching up with your credit card I am going to have to send you to another rep. Please hold.

New CS rep to me - sir how may i help you? Went through question one again..... and once again I get the same response.... please hold while we transfer to another agent.

Third CS rep to me - sir how may i help you? Went through question one for the third time. She had the same response for me, but this time I asked to go to my purchase record. Me to CS rep.... There have been over 50 orders to me at this address with this very same credit card with no problems... what you are telling me makes no sense. CS rep to me... Sir please hold.

Fourth CS rep to me - sir we can't find the problem now so we are releasing the order to you. :headbang:

    2. Second question to fourth CS rep - Are you planning on re-releasing the first spouse coins at a later and if so, will there be a price change? Fourth CS rep to me - sir, I cannot answer that because I don't know, but there will most likely be a price drop. :rolling:

    3. Third question to fourth CS rep (I am on a roll now) - If the price does drop, and the mint offers an unconditional one month return policy, would I be eligible for a credit. Fourth CS rep to me - no sir, we don't issue credits. Me to Fourth CS rep - so if you don't issue credits and I am still in the one month window, i can return my coin and re-purchase it at the current price. Fourth CS rep to me - no sir, we won't allow you to do that either. Have a good day "click".

I thought by the time I finished typing this I would be less angry, now I am more angry than before so I am getting off.

they may for the new issues, Elaine, but it would be unprecedented for the mint to lower a price on an item that they have been selling other than under the guise of a "clearance" sale.

IMHO what will happen is that they will only clear out existing "on the shelf" inventory without re-pricing it, and wait until next year to mint more coins and price them as they wish. (... and hope that gold doesn't get really volitile next year...)
