Aboncom (who owns and/or operates SGS, directly or indirectly through some type of LLC) is involved in this...unless all of the "70" coins and MS67/68 Morgans are now making their way to central Ohio! Remember...SGS is NOTHING more than marketing and packaging for eBay powersellers like Aboncom in order to dupe newbies into shelling out hard earned money for coins that are no way near a "70" grade. Just because a coin is held in gold foil and plastic doesn't mean it was 3rd partied graded and authenticated! Please DO NOT call them a grading service. Star Grading Service (SGS) is nothing more than "putting lipstick on a pig" and selling the pig! I will state, however, "I am sorry" if I am offending any pigs out there. Pass the word...
Are you sure you would get it back and not "slabbed" on ebay? Hell, they may even decide to grade that if they thought they could make money. Just use the currency scale. G, F and AU. I'm sure it would "qualify" for one of those. clembo
Would I be correct in assuming you're not a fan of SGS? As for passing the word not to worry. I've been doing that ever since I joined CoinTalk. By the way does this lipstick look good on me? clembo
Took me awhile to make it with Photoshop all...I took one of my toned Buff nickels, took a picture of it and added more colors and "enhanced" it. Click on it to enlarge it. Thanks
I really have to say, even pretty circulated coins (are you talking coins in G to F?) are easily faked, most notably 1914-D Lincolns, 1922 Plain Lincolns, and 1893-S Morgans with soldered on mintmarks, other coins with retooled dates etc ad nauseum. OK, you only buy coins in the under $300 range. Probably not faked. There are coins that were altered back in the day that still surface. Some of them are not high dollar coins today. I, like you, like to think I can spot a fake, altered, or enhanced coin. Not always as easy as you think.......
I just saw that someone paid $950 for an SGS ms65 graded coin. for a double eagle coin. and same person bought another $900 coin and SGS ms64. what do you guys think.
ditto ... get some of those slab things from coinworld & go for it ... look at the typing you'll save grading everything ms70... ~ run off 1000 labels & start packaging.
LOL, here is a seller offering an advise book on Ebay coin buying. YIKES !!! His last feedback is a SGS MS-66 cleaned up $ !! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190147611197
