The year 2009 is just around the corner and so is a new design for the Lincoln Cent. It is no secret that the 2009 cent will be made of the same composition as the original was first made in 1909, maybe not all but some will be, along with (i've read) a 2009 vdb and a 2009-s vdb. It is predicted that alot of dealers will be buying up alot of the 1909 vdb and s-vdb cents to put in sets with the new cents, sort of like, I guess, a 100th anniversary set. With this upcoming anniversary the prices of early Lincolns will rise a great deal along with the demand. If Lincolns are your thing, what will you do before the buying fenzy takes place. Will you try to buy alot more while the prices are at an affordable level and tuck them away? Maybe you'll just buy a few? Maybe you think the 100th anniversary wont affect prices that much and you wont bother with it. Maybe you're not interested and therefore dont really care. Please post your concerns, agree or disagree.

I've been buying up semi key date lincolns as I can vdb's 10-15 s mints, 22,24d 31pds-33pd nice proofs, that kind of thing. I expect the series to take a bump up with the 2009 celebration and believe you me if they make 2009 vdb and 2009 s vdb cents in original composition and hopefully wheat ears I will own more than a few.

They are already very collectible, and they have already increased in value, lately the semi-keys have been HOT!

Personally, I've been trying to buy up key and semi-key Lincolns lately. I agree with Frank, Lincolns have been very collectible and have been increasing in value very steadily. I feel sure that by 2009 that these coins will be doulbed in value. 1909 vdb, 1909-s vdb, 1910-s, 1911-d, 1911-s, 1912-s, 1913-s, 1914-d, 1914-s, 1915-d, 1915-s, 1922 no d, 1924-d, 1931-s and 1933-d.

1915-D? I would include 1912-D, 1922-D, 1926-S, and 1931-D. Also, have you ever tried to find nice 1923-S of 1924-S Lincolns? I would think that slabbed coins would go up more with all of the new collectors. (I know, slabbing is not SUPPOSED to add value.) Another SWAG, I would expect a lot of newbies to start with later proofs.

I just hope that there are not so many stockpiled, that it cancels out the demand increase.

i would simply complete a collection of lincolns including 1909s vdb and 1914 d... but I have NOo money. So I will stockpile all the 2009 cents and save them forever and if i'm lucky i will eventually be able to buy a 1909 s vdb

Money is kind of tight right now in the clembo household but in the past month I have piced up 2 1910-S, a 12-S, 13-S and an XF 11-S. Got my ANACS 14-D in F15 a few months ago way under dealer bid.

I have multiples of all of those dates that I have picked up over the years (except the 14-D). Probably got 3/4 roll or so of VDB.

I DON'T consider myself a Lincoln collector but those semi-keys are already moving up FAST. Get 'em while you can I say.

I need to finish my Lincoln set, which doesn't include any of the key dates.

I completed my set last year and don't really feel like picking up some more of the coin! I would rather pick up some nice nickels or quarters!!

The certainly have been, especially in collector grades from G to XF. Bids have been rising on a regular basis.

I have set a goal of one million pennies by 2009. I roll search so wheats, junk coppers and nice Memorials are what I have been saving. I have bought some keys,BU rolls and bulk wheats for the right price and I am about half way to my goal. I like many look foward to all the coins slated for 2009.

    What you ALL said, lol.

I have been building rolls of all key dates mentioned in fine or better, paying extra attention to the XF/AU's, every one I can get. It is getting VERY difficult to just pay bid/ask these days. If the coin is NICE I have paid 20-25% over ASK for some early XF/AU's. They are that tough.
Try finding a WELL struck 24-D. At ANY price.....
Same with many other early dates. Just the keys get the attention now, but all the 20's mintmarked coins, in nice no prob WELL struck XF range is from $5-$12 in my CDN. Go buy one for that. Well try anyways. Get the point? You can by all the g/vg/f/vf in just about everything, but above that, they can give you headaches.
Investors and big $$ types will of course drive the slabber 65-Red prices for sure, but the collector grades will surely tag along. I can really see these high end circulated coins as a solid buy at todays prices.

It's not that I have alot of money, I just have not put away in savings and 401K like normal. Like I have said in other posts, I'm hedging. Gambling? Pretty sure it's a safe bet.

CDN cannot keep up with the prices.

I really don't care what happens with the 2009 coins. I have my 10 completed sets to date and will only try to add one of each to those. Other than stockpiling, hoarding, etc that is the nice thing about being old I guess. I just don't worry about the future to much. Hoarding for a tomorrow that may never come is not my thing any more.

Most of the price increase in the 1909 coins may have already occurred. The time to buy was probably about three years ago. If you buy now and hold the coins beyond 2009, don't be surprised if the prices drift back down to where they were a few years ago. There should be a lot of 1909/2009 promotional sales and I think many dealers have already stocked-up for it.

Gotta agree on this one Cloud. I picked up my 65-98 set of quarters in 98. In 99 they basically doubled and have not dropped. Glad I did it.

Of course the State Quarters was a BIG deal to the "non-collectors" but so many were still clueless. This will happen with the cent too so there is still time.

A few quick true stories from when I ran a truck stop.

Gave a guy a Delaware quarter in change. He THREW it across the room because I gave him a Canadian quarter. I retrieved it and calmly told him what an idiot he was as it was a U.S. quarter.

When they changed the design of currency to "Big Heads" many truckers told me that they had a hard time using them especially in the south (no offense anyone) because they were counterfeit. Cashiers wouldn't take them.

Yeah, we still got some time on the Lincolns but the sooner we get them the better.

Agree Clembo, still time but the clock is ticking. Looking forward to the monthly summary !!
