I think they should dedicate one side to Buzz Aldrin clocking the guy in the face.

I will likely enter, although I am disappointed with the whole affair for three reasons:

    1) This will be a commemorative coin, not a circulating coin. I feel this event deserves a wider audience than just coin collectors.

    2) Contestants will only be designing one side of the coin.

    3) The coin will be cupped, like the Baseball commemorative. Ugh.

Can't blame this on the US Mint however. Congress made these stipulations.

Did anyone watch the new A&E series last night entitled "Cooper's Gold"? It's about Gordon Cooper's Mercury mission where he pinpointed what may be Spanish wrecks that have never been found.

I wonder if Sy @Skyman knows anything about this?

    Chris

PS. I think the "cupped" idea sucks, too!

Then obviously the surface of the moon needs to be a large part of the design, no??

I would assume that would be the side that isn't up for the contest wouldn't it?

Not sure, I didn't read the rules :) Hopefully a nice full moon is on the convex side. EDIT: I just had a great idea for the concave side... maybe I need to investigate how to enter! haha

Just read the rules. The convex side is the reverse (that makes no sense! If the coin is sitting on a table with obverse up, it will be wobbly!) and will not feature a picture of the moon. My idea was for the moon to be on the convex side, and an astronaut looking out the window at the moon on the concave side. The curved surface of the coin could be part of his space shuttle. How cool would that have been?

I just hope it doesn't turn out to be another one of those dumb series like the one about Oak Island.

Yeah that ones like all fake. I like Expedition Unknown but they never continue the investigation.

As mentioned, the design and coin specifications were legislated by Congress. For all those complaining, I might suggest, "When was the last time Congress did something right?"

I have not paid any attention to the Cooper's Gold show. IMO a LOT of those type of shows are simply designed to pull in an audience without giving any sort of definite conclusion at the end.

Besides which, I have Cooper's fruitcake and mini peanut butter sandwiches flown on his Mercury flight; Faith 7. Who needs gold when you've got peanut butter sandwiches and fruitcake?! ;)

I'd sure like to read up more on his alleged UFO sightings. Coincidentally I found I have a DVD of The Right Stuff the other day and watched it.

I sure hope it's a fitting commemorative piece for the 50th anniversary.
    That needs to happen.

Another cluster .... just like everything they done over the last how many years ?
First they show you designs those that you like are shot down, then they pick some design totally off the wall....and can't deliver that.... I am so done with the U.S. mint....they can't even copy a timeless design and get it right....so can you expect some new design to fit the bill?
