Collectors if someone wants to sell their collection or pieces what or where is the best place other than EBAY ?
That's going to depend a great deal on the seller, the items to be sold, and the urgency involved. If it's a six-figure collection of four- and five-figure coins, one of the big auction houses might be best. If it's a few books of Lincoln cents, a yard sale may be a better bet.
My local shops usually pay better then what I can get on eBay. If not they are near and I don't have to worry about the eBay hassle.
Sure there is a right answer. It is simply that you sell wherever works best: and every situation is different. To the OP, you need to be more explicit as to what you have. Every possible answer that someone could give could be correct. It all depends on the circumstances.
OP just lookin' for a right situation scenario........to which, we need some more facts about what is to be sold.
I hate to be the one to break the obvious to you, but every answer cannot be the "right" answer, even without knowing the "circumstances". Every "place" cannot also be the "best place to sell", unless the only option, and is simple common sense... And this helps how? Bringing your pettiness into another thread; how nice! Come on, Mr. Perfect; definitively answer the question, and do so based upon ZERO information. Yeah... didn't think so.
I buy/sell/trade a little with local coin shops. Local coin Shows too. But most of my buying & selling is thru ebay.
There is one dealer at the shows I attend who is known for paying the most for coins. It took a while to learn which dealer it is. Being observant over time I watched as other dealers went to him to flip stuff they just bought from walk ins.
I have a dealer on the local coin show circuit like this too. Best Buy back prices are good to know. I also have a brick and mortar guy that gives me the best backs outside the show. It took me months to find these guys though. You need to do some digging.
Most dealers will pay only a percentage of the value of the coin. That depends on the coin, and the dealer as to what that would be. EBay should get you more if you know what you're doing, but then you have fees, and possible problems with buyers/shipping. There are also shows, pawn shops, fleemarkets, etc... Depending on what you are trying to sell, some places are better than others. That's why you were asked to describe what you are selling. Also, you could attempt to sell them on this site.
by particularly mentioning gold & silver, I think the OP is talking about the best way to exchange bullion for cash. In this case large dealers like APMEX may be the best course of action if you're unable to find a coin shop or cash for gold shop that is highly recommended in your area. If you're talking about old gold and silver coinage with significant numismatic value it may be best to put them up for auction on Heritage Auction if the coin or collection is highly valuable. You might also want to pursue eBay. Giving us an idea on what you're contemplating on unloading will give us a better idea on how you should go about selling.
Saying you want to sell "coins" is a little bit like saying you want to sell "a car". 2003 Accord? 1975 Dodge Dart? Restored Model T? Lamborghini? "Gold from panning" should help, but I'm afraid I'm not the one with answers for that. "Silver" -- again, not enough info. Sterling flatware? 1-ounce .999 silver rounds? Pre-1965 change?
Make a list of what you want to sell, post it here on the for sale forum. Ask to be PM for more details. Pics are great, because as you know condition is everything.
