So i got my Claudian As today in the mail. Here are some quick photos. Excuse the fabric threads on the obverse, but they are from drying the coin after a gentle soak in Verdi-Care (something I do with all my Ae coins when i first get them). Compare my images, which i think are very accurate as to what it looks like in the hand, to the auction photos, and needless to say that the coin looks far better than expectations. Here is the auction image: Anyway, I was so exited that I looked around for someone to share the joy with. My son was too busy watching Teen Titans Go and didn't want to hear me talk about my Roman coins, so he politely declined by telling me "Leave me alone, daddy, no coins!" Luckily though, I have a Shiba Inu named Chippy. So I called Chippy-san over and started to tell him about my coin. To my surprise, he sat down and listened intently. I was so shocked I took a quick picture of the event. I continued to tell Chippy about Claudius, and got about 50 seconds in before he yawned, and went straight to attacking my flip flops (he thinks my flip flops are his chew toys). I was so disappointed. What good is a dog if he won't listen to you give a 30 minute lecture about your new coin? Still, it was nice that he sat there for almost a minute listening to me talk about the coin...unless he thought the coin was a snack? Oh God, no! I'd call my ex-wife, but she already told me she doesn't want to hear about my coins either, unless I intend to sit on the phone and listen to her tell me about her shoe collection. Needless to say, that's a price I'm not willing to pay. Luckily, i remembered you guys. If there is one place where people will hear you talk about your coins, this is certainly the right place.

Love the coin and that sweet dog!! Your photo captures the color and texture that I'd expect to see in-hand...Congrats!!! Seriously, a shoe collection???
Cool coins and I do love your new pup @Sallent I guess I could let the cat outside oops, and get me one. Nah, I couldn't I actually like smojo. I was never the cat type before he came along. I don't have a single Claudius to share, well I have a couple of Claudius II. Nah, I won't go there . Some awsome coins in this thread.
Love the new coin and the pup. Don't let him lull you into a false sense of security. He looks very intelligent, he is going to be a little devil until he is about 3 and a half. Don't take your eyes off him
Sallent...we have a bit in common I think. My son would rather watch that show Teen Titans than coins. And we both recently got puppies. Here's "his" laying with mine:
Thanks man! Your's is quite a looker as well. I'm unfamiliar with the breed, but I'm sure you're dealing with the same things I am...teeth! Like little needles! The puppy has learned what I mean when I say "No bite!"
No disease at all - the deposits are completely hard. I sold the coin to Sallent and I checked it thoroughly first. I never knowingly sell a coin with BD.
Nice coin for sure and you will always have a willing ear here. We love to hear people brag about their new coins.
Caligula tried to make Incitatus, his horse, a senator. I'll do one better, make me your Emperor and Chippy shall be your new consul together with the Miami Marlins mascot, Billy. What two finer consuls could you ask for? @John Anthony , yeah, I knew when i saw it that it was mineral deposits. It was obvious even without testing it. Plus I trust you wouldn't let a coin that obviously infested pass through your expert hands. That's not to say Verdi-Care won't reveal questionable or weak patina for what it is, and some of it might be good enough to even elude the experts. Like the Gordian III AE you sold me, the green fell off with Verdi-Care (with the exception of a few thicker mineral deposits on the obverse, but it definitely wasn't BD as it was hard and there was no damage underneath. Most likely lose mineral deposits that just needed a gentle cleaning to come off. I figured it's just like those dark denarii that brighten up in acetone or denured alcohol, as some of the dark coloring was probably dirt and old oils from tobacco smoke and handling, or lose materials.
