It just barely makes it to the rim on the left. But the right side over by the 1 is just spectacular. I'm going to try an experiment and see if I can capture what I see in the displaced field. I'll start a thread for it, so as not to hijack my own thread.
Wait until you see these focus stacked images of this die crack/break. I'm calling it the "Great Wall of George".
Reminds me of a brick property dividing "wall" I repaired/built (there was an old row buried about 2 inches deep) for my grandmother about ten years ago. Built it three bricks high (according to her specs) and dubbed it the Great Wall of Belleville.
Been doing a lot of under $50 purchases lately. No particular reason other than I am in a higher quantity over higher price phase right now. Here are some of my April pickups...
I bought this one for $17.05 because its cool and I think I see a rim burr on the lower obverse and the reverse has something going on with the rim too... I paid $42.16 on this one because, well you will know when you see it...
Speaking of new varieties, I recently purchased a 1787 Massachusetts Cent for $30 in about G-4 grade. At first glance, it looks like there's a small mark on the eagle's neck. Turns out, when I got it checked out, it was a new variety I then named "The Thanksgiving Variety" Sadly, My camera is broken and it can only take really blurry pictures
When I was at a local coin show, I saw it in a "mixed old coin bin" which were all labeled $10. But when I picked the coin up, the dealer stopped me and asked to see the coin. He cracked a smile and said "This one will cost ya $30" Still being a cherry picker's white whale, I took the deal
So all I need is a Brillo pad and I can start making new VAM's too? Nice pick and congrat's on another new VAM.
Sure. If you have a time machine and become a mint worker in the 1800s tasked with polishing the dies
Sherman set the way back machine to 1878 San Francisco . .... I'm going to create a Monster Vam and then travel to 2017 and rub it in Justin ' s Face!
