Just wondering if a 1895 O Morgan silver dollar is worth paying 200$ for? And would there be room to make money if i needed ever? And the grade on it is probably in the EF area.

No, 1895-O morgan dollars are not that valuable to my knowledge. I believe it would be worth $35-$50.

An EF '95-O Morgan without problems should bring $450 to $500 at a minimum. Any 1895 Morgan is a good one. That date is a chronic blank spot in many Morgan collections.

Oh wow! Really? Now I'm kicking myself for passing up a VF one for $60:( Is that a semi-key then?

I was going to say.. i thought it was a pretty key date. But for 60$?? Thats a great deal, but aren't the 95s known for being faked? i still have to weigh and check width and all that for the one im looking at. Thanks for letting me know Santinidollar!

I believe both the -o and -s are subject to tomfoolery. Of course, the only '95 p's are proof.

So is the weight the best way to tell its fake? The font and details all looked fine.

Honestly, the pictures (of course) from the eBay seller were crappy so I passed. Not gonna spend $60 on a potential fake coin.

I'd be very distrustful of an EF 1895-O being offered at $200. That's less than half of retail.

Photos would be great .. Weight will give you a good start only if it is not correct. Counterfeit coins can weigh correctly. I've seen an XF counterfeit 1921 Morgan. Some people will do anything for money :)

I would not buy ANY ungraded 1895 Morgan Dollar. They are faked WAY too much.

Having said that if you feel comfortable with seller and can confirm the VAM before purchasing an ungraded one go for it.

Thanks everyone, I have morgans my mother have me to hold for her years ago, she passed a year ago. I knew fakes were made but I learned alot from this post- fakes, price etc. It made me read up on Morgans and learn alot, now if I could just find where put all thoughs coins my mom gave me that her mom gave her.

Yeah I'll get some photos when i go to look at it. Its being sold at a pawn shop so i will for sure check everything very well. And they seem to have a pretty good reputation with coins to. I will research on 95 O VAMS before i go in to. Thanks all for the responses.

Since you looking at this in a Pawn Shop. I would be more concerned with the correct grade. All Morgans are VAMs. Some more valuable than others. 0-$1000s
If this is truly an EF coin tread carefully. Check the weight, most Pawn Shops overprice their goods and they are good judges for their company. If its too good to be true it usually is.

Yeah thats what i was thinking I'll have to check the weight but i came up with the grade by how it looks they dont have it with a grade on it i was comparing to my AU-53 Morgan. May be off a bit but it looks really good though.

You are correct....But NOT ALL counterfeit Morgans are VAMS.

Edit...There are only 7 VAMs for the 1895-O so learning them shouldn't be too hard. Study the date position & MM position. If the one in the Pawn Shop is different then it is a fake.

Alright so the 95-O is real everything checks out only thing now is the condition was nowhere near what i remember it looking like. I would have to say its probably good. Now im just wondering what i could get for it being in good condition?

Basically curious as to what the value would even in poor condition. I'm not sure if cointrackers is accurate it says one in even poor condition is worth 500$ +
