I quite like it as well. Based on your title I wasn't sure if you were asking about authenticity or whatever but I think it is a very nice coin, excellent toning and loads of eye appeal.
Coins like this make me wonder how old the toning really is and how long has the coin been in someone's possession? It's a beauty!!
I have a couple of Republican DenariI that I got in the mid 80s, at that time there were freshly cleaned and white. Now, after 30 years they are a pleasant light gray color.
That is one beautiful denarius. Toning, style, strike ... all combine together to make a great looking coin with a lot of eye appeal.
A lot would depend on storage conditions. I'd imagine coins stored in paper envelopes, even archival quality paper envelopes, should tone a lot faster than coins held in plastic flips or cardboard holders. The climate will also have much to do with it. In a desert environment the toning will be minimal and take a long time, while in a climate like here in south Florida it should be much faster. The humidity in my house, even with the climate control, is probably 40% to 45% humidity in the summer. Safe enough not to have to worry about bronze decease, but humid enough to ensure gradual toning over the years in my paper envelopes. In fact, I've already noticed slight subtle additional toning on some of my coins from two years ago which were in cardboard flips. It's nothing substantial, but I'd imagine now in paper envelopes in a decade they might be solid gray with a hint of color, and in 2 decades they might have light rainbow toning effect combined with darker gray. Of course, they are not always in the house, and will spend substantial time in a bank box, but even there there should be enough humidity to work on them (again, south Florida climate).
Great coin and a great shot! I like how you can see exactly where the wear on the high points is. The patina is also cool. I might have guessed it was a "find patina," but "old collection toning" works for me.
I doubt you'd get anything less than a positive opinion on this lovely coin! Nice deep strike, well centered, nice toning... winner
