I've probably already written that previously, but here I feel like in a pub, with friends, around a beer (or whatever you might prefer drinking, "open minded" being the motto) with very diverse people, from all over the world (even the occasionnal frenchie ), having very diverse occupations in their lives but sharing the same interest for numismatics. Sharing our coins with people showing interest in them is very rewarding. I too live in a village where I wouldn't even dare telling people what I have. As a plus, coming here every day or so, reading and writing english on a daily basis has allowed a great improvement in my comprehension of a foreign language Go CT, Go ! Q
Like @Aethelred I was / am a member of the PCGS CU forum , I too got a tip about the Cointalk forum from a member overthere. Never regretted joining this forum, its awsome in every aspect. Seldom visit the PCGS forum anymore. The number of posts, the knowledge and the beautifull coins shown here are overwhelming. Want to thank all the CT members, and agree 100% with TIF !
Everyone has already said it all... As @TIF stated....."This is the best ancient coin Forum for me..." It's a wonderful place to share our interests and passions---and we have Steve too!!!
I am a new member to this forum. Since I collect more then just ancients, I mingle with the paper currency/ World coin/ US coin crowd too. But, I have to admit , you guys/gals that are into ancients are a class act! I have learned a lot, since becoming a member, best thing I ever did. Steve...animals rule!
It's great having you as a CoinTalk comrade! This site is definitely one of a kind! I'm an evolving collector and exchanging ideas with you guys is enlightening and refreshing. I've come a long way from my slab happy days and having a place and a receptive and knowledgable group to show off my graphic creations is wonderful.
I'm also still relatively new to CT and I agree with everything @Aethelred said. Love this place! I am not a social media kind of guy (I don't even have a Facebook) which is why I'm surprised this place has become a daily habit for me I could call out specific people but there are too many to list in one post so I'll just say you guys/gals are the coolest and you all crack me up. Big thumbs up for Perter Davis for creating such a cool site that's really user friendly as well. I thought about joining a couple other places but some of their sites were so annoying to use (at least on a cell phone) that I gave up. I'm curious to know from those of you who have frequented many forums in the past whether you think CT is the most active ancients group? It certainly seems very lively. Here's a coin in honor of all of you!
Things are always evolving. The internet much more quickly than anything else. I dont know if anyone remembers what the original electronic bulletin boards were, but they operated via dial up, just text messages. Later there were newsgroups, like rec.collecting.coins and Moneta-L, both e-mail groups. Both still exist but are essentially dead. Forums like this is where people now congregate. I myself only found it a year and a half ago but find it quite engaging, though I am sure it is not for everyone.
Alterbani => hmmm, I don't quite understand, yet ... do you collect ancient coins, or are you merely a Shaq-cat lover?
beat it ... Alterbani, what happens in your head? (it's a total waste of everybody's energy) => man, you must be lonely, eh? (no chick? => just beat it)
For me, what distinguishes this site from any others is the level of support and (in most but not all cases) benefit-of-the-doubt that is given to novices and newbies whose questions aren't always well articulated. Most newbie questions are of the "Is this real and how much is it worth?" type, which is completely natural for anyone who has just discovered a 2000-year-old coin. A lot of times, that's where the newbie's interest in ancient coins starts and ends, and that's OK, since that individual probably won't be coming back to this site. Sometimes it's simply a more blatant profit motive, and when that becomes apparent, the level of support received is inversely proportional to the greed involved. But occasionally, it's clear that the responses spark a continuing interest in ancient coins, and the newbie becomes an actual collector. The hobby becomes richer and better off with the addition of thoughtful collectors, due to the existence of this site.
