It's funny how it is almost always the under 10-20 dollar purchases that get sellers in the most trouble on eBay from buyers that just want to be an issue.

The guy gave you free money....

    Okay.. let's break it down...

He's presenting himself as an experienced seller and using it to justify his position that negative feedback is warranted, right? Well, is the seller experienced? No, at least from outwards appearances, he's not, so does it really make sense to take an experienced approach? Did Mr. Perfect always handle things so perfectly, or could it be that over time he learned proper customer service?

Perhaps I've missed it, but I still don't see where you've exactly quoted the seller's response (German does translate the last I knew). I'm sorry, and no disrespect intended, but saying he "basically doesn't have time for" you simply doesn't cut it. You misinterpreted my last post and this isn't the first time, so could it be you did the same with him? Maybe and maybe not, but he greater point is we don't even know what the guy actually said yet some people are basing their view you should destroy another person's selling opportunities because of it. Does this really make sense?

Again, this isn't dinging some large seller where it's not going to matter. Negging this guy would lower his rating to the point where selling would be very difficult if not impossible. Does he punishment fit the crime? This is the ONLY question here, and the answer is NO.

Might actually lock his account if one of his first 10 is negative. Sold silver under melt too, ironic

Because pettiness and vindictiveness know no bounds in this hobby.

I recently wrote of this in another thread, but I once received a neutral over a free gift worth multiples of the actual purchase!

Sadly true. Anything under 10 is probably better to just spend then risk eBay.

I would think positive feedback with a comment along the line of "coins as listed, subpar packaging" and ding him on the communication.

    Question for BooksB4Coins:
    So if you bought coins and sent a message to a seller and he blew you off and said he does not have time for you;
you would be ok with that?

I've read the seller's message and can confirm that he comes accross pretty rude. None of the coins is uncirculated, although the description says so for one coin. And the top right Jefferson in the picture looks UNC to a non-collector (or someone who has simply no glue (clue? :) However, we're talking about a $3 junk silver deal (excl. shipping) and I can understand the seller when he says "I don't have time for this". He is not an experienced seller and certainly not a coin dealer, so I am puzzled why people expect "great customer service".

I'm not one expecting great service. But in the time the seller did take to give his curt reply, he could have spent giving a courteous response.

+1000. This is the online equivalent of someone walking into the dollar store and expect a Tag Heuer customer service experience. To many high horses and much ado about nothing

Tape doesn't hurt anything. Especially on these.

No harm, no flow and I wouldn't waste two minutes of my life dealing with it at all.

I was just in the 99 Cent Only store and the lady ahead of me was asking the cashier if they took special orders for merchendise

It's not the tape. It is the seller's rude and flippant reply.

No, I wouldn't. However, I also wouldn't have pestered him in the first place or approached as the OP did, but would have reasonably looked at the situation before rushing to the vindictive pettiness you and others have suggested.

Something tells me the seller realizes they sold for less than technical scrap, and who wants to bother with petty complaints from someone who just snagged a deal? This isn't meant to defend it, but seriously, put yourself in his shoes and be honest with yourself. Not only that, but in his first post the OP openly admitted to knowing the single coin wasn't uncirculated, yet goes on to describe how he not only confronted the seller about the tape, but directly implied (to the seller) said tape is responsible for knocking it out of said range, yet not one person has questioned this even though, again by his own admission, it directly lead to the upsetting response. We should also consider the possibility that the language barrier played a part in this, but still, the guy responded rudely to nonsense; so what?

Do two wrongs make a right? No, they don't, but even if the wrong came only from the seller side, the punishment MUST FIT THE CRIME, and in no way does the seller's less than professional reaction (to games) warrant having his account destroyed. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I like the OP and have great respect for him, but the fact is this could've been handled differently on both sides.

    Rushing to vindictive pettyness? Baloney.
I would not hesitate to give the jerk a negative for his way of doing business. That is an honest reaction, nothing vindictive about it. He deserves it. And that's why eBays offers it as a choice.

We don't actually know what that reply was. The Op gave us no details. We don't know who was rude, the seller or the buyer.

Again though, sell someone silver under melt and get crucified. And people wonder why they get blocked for a question on eBay

Your pettiness and vindictiveness is coming through loud and clear, sir. Was it an "honest reaction" for the buyer to lie to the seller about the tape being responsible for knocking a coin out of unc when he knew damn well it wasn't uncirculated to begin with? Believe it or not, actions have consequences, sir, and from what has been said thus far, it's not unreasonable to conclude that the seller's less than ideal handling of the situation was in direct response to nonsense.

Perhaps you should post your eBay ID. Something tells me there will be a few wishing to add you to their blocked list.

I'm just responding now hoping it gets to page 5. If it does that means there is a page for every dollar that was spent in this thread.
