Hi all, I know that some of you collectors will say "What the heck does this thread have to do with paper currency?".. So I will explain. As some of you know I love to metal detect. One day I found this strange metalic (unkown metal) ingot on the beach. As I cleaned the wet sand away I noticed that on one side there os a carving of what looks like President Jackson.. well to me it does anyway Anybody know what it could be? Or just junk? Either way it's a keeper for me. (The Quarter was placed there for size comparison)
Yes.. right near the waters edge at low tide. The only metal that I think it could be is aluminum. If it were lead it would be much heavier.
I am guessing that it has to be some alloy with aluminium. I wonder if it was some intaglio die to press paper or cardboard with? Also wonder if it drifted away from an offshore shipwreck.
Roll some water based ink over it, and press it on paper. Then wash off the ingot and lets see the print.
I'm going to guess it's zinc. The image looks like it was impressed with something like a branding iron. Or laser cut.
