So I was going through a collection of coins and looking for errors or something similar and I found the p mint mark to be smaller than usual and filled in, the one I am talking about is on the left. Can anyone tell me if it's worth anything, I'm new to this.
Worn die, worn coin, possibly filled die or die chip, no value, but keep looking...they are among us.
Your photo is way too small for me to tell what is wrong with the mintmark. Is it possible for you to crop out the area surrounding the mintmark and then resizing the new image? Then, use the "Full Image" option when uploading the file. The "Thumbnail" image option that CT provides really sucks! Chris
for some reason i can not zoom in further, the only things i know is that it is a 1981 coin from philadelphia.
no, if you see the very picture, you should be able to see the mint of the coin (left) without any problems.
I can see the picture, but the mintmark is about 1/1000th of it. Never mind! Thanks for trying. Chris
Yes the P is smaller on the 1981.Back then they used a hand punch and punched the mintmark into every die. In 1990 they added the mintmark to the master die and later to the original model that they make the master hub from and the P mintmarks are larger on those. So the size difference is normal. It doeslook like a die chip may have caused the loop of the P to fill on the 1981, but such die chips are common.
