I found a 1976 Jefferson Nickel. No mint mark. Cointrackers.com doesn't have such a coin in its database. This coin probably is the same value as Jefferson Nickels with D or P mint marks, right? Please confirm. Thanks, Mitch

    dsmith23 Gotta get 'em all

Philidelphia coins didn't have the P mark on the nickel in 1976 so what you have is a P nickel.

DSmith - Now I found a 1971 Jefferson Nickel without a Mint Mark. Also a "P" Nickel like the 1976 that we discussed last time? Please let me know. -- Mitch:)

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

I believe the P mintmarks (Not including wartime issue nickels) were first added to coins in 1979. So anything before that on a nickel is a philly.

Hi my name is ben I have a nickel from 1976 and has no mint mark and looks like there's a bar carved into it and the top and bottom bends in if anyone has any information about it?

Welcome to Coin Talk! The missing mintmark could be due to a weak strike. If you can post an image of the coin, that would help. :)

All nickels made in Philadelphia from 1938-1979(excluding wartime nickels dated 1942-1945, which have a large P mintmark on the reverse), have no mintmark. On nickels dated 1938-1964, the mintmark if it has one, is on the reverse on the right side of the building.

I don't really understand your question, but a 1976 nickel with no mint mark is just a normal coin minted in Philadelphia. In circulated condition, any 1976 nickel is a very common coin. With either no mint mark or with a D mint mark it is worth 5 cents.

In 1979 they added the P to the Susan B Anthony dollar,
and in 1980 all the other coins except the Lincoln Cents also got P's to designate Philadelphia.
Please correct me if this is incorrect.

First, welcome to the neighborhood! Does your username have anything to do with the song by Marvin Gaye?

If you read this entire thread from the beginning, you will learn more about the mintmark placement on Jefferson nickels.

Coins with no mint mark are quite common, and were made in Philadelphia.

I too have a 1976 Nickle that has no mint mark and the printing is barely readable along with do to the depth. The pony tail has no how and on the reverse the building itself is not as detailed.

Pictures, please. The lack of detail could be struck through grease. But photos are definitely needed.
