    Is this self-promotion?

The coin looks damaged and reconstructed at 11:00 obverse / 7:00 reverse.

A repaired AU coin sold for $9400 including the juice back in 2014, so the current bid of $8100 doesn't look out of line.

Not a TPGS that I know. Why wouldn't they crossover to a more known, and trusted service for a rare coin like this ?

Because that TPG buys problem coins then self slabs them giving straight grades. Notice the black dot on the slab. EBay started to crack down on him last year and forced him to edit out his numerical grades

I stopped just short of saying what you did . . . thanks for pointing out what most should already be aware of.

Good to know, I knew something happened to that seller but I didn't know what. dblthumb2.gif

Another crazy thing about that seller is that a few years back he won a national grading competition. He knows his stuff, he just chose to apply his skills to the scammer dark side. If he buys righteous coins he gets them slabbed by PCGS or NGC and sells them that way.

Looks like you stopped just short of adding something relevant on that post. Unless hurling insults is something you consider relevant. It also would appear your claim of what "most" should know is only your opinion.

Oh, I think what I posted was completely relevant. Without speaking to the reputation of the seller, I found another way of indicating that the coin is probably not worth bidding a whole lot more.

Once the seller had been outed, I decided it might benefit others who didn't already know if his reputation to at least consider investing the time to do their own research.

If you think me too cautious, I'm glad to be, rather than the opposite.
