On my way home from work decided to roll search again, first time in years. Nothing to write home about, but does anyone else separate the Shield pennies still or is that just me? I now have over $10.00 in shield pennies. Any special dates to look for?

Why are these so hard to find???
    $7.88 in Shield Cents

I still have to sort the Memorial Cents by year anf then look for errors, etc. Did see quite a few in (hopefully) nice condition

First time I have done this in years so bare with me as I figure out what I should/shouldn't actually hold on to, lol

Also got $37.00 in dollar coins, $25.00 was rolled by someone who turned them in, all Sacs & Prezies. Anything besides the edges I should be looking for there?

    Thanks!

All of the Shield Cents, have doubled die listings. Very hard to spot them without taking some special time with them. Check Wexler's site. Of course they are not what we normally think of when searching for these, totally different from days of old.

Don't forget to save aside the 1983's for a possible copper planchet. Should weigh 2.5 grams. Find one that weighs 3.1 grams and you have a wnner! ( I think I got the weights correct .)

Sweet. Did not know about the 1983's. I will have to buy a small scale for that. I have a list of all the common errors, and the cherry pickers guide. I know there were some errors in 83' but was unaware of the copper. Why I didn;t think of it with our mint...I don't know. I'll check Wexler's later tonight. I imagine not any premium on the shields?

At this point the 83's are going for a lot of money ( only a few have been found ) but that could all change if someone can figure out if they were our planchets or those from another country. Check the listings on ebay for the 2014 Shield doubled die after you check Wexler, one of them is around $100.00 or so. I'm having a terrible time trying to identify the slopes on the 1 indicated for the doubling. Have found a few that stood out quite well though.

You can make a rudimentary fulcrum scale out of objects easily found around the house. Set it up so a zinc penny doesn't tip the balance but a copper penny does. Then you have a very easy-to-use go/no-go testing device.

Yes, I have a homemade fulcrum scale and have found very few 82 zinc. I suppose it would rock to find a copper 83!
