Hello my friends, I need your opinions on whether this is a strike thru or just PMD. Also, while your looking and if my pics are good enough to tell, is this proof like? In hand it looks to be, hopefully I captured it well enough for opinions. The last photo is representative of the surface both obv and rev. Anyone care to guess the VAM#, the rev has been acid treated......Thanks again my friends, you guys rock!

It looks like it has been improperly cleaned.

Chris, it may look that way from my pics, but I don't think it's been cleaned. The finish is very mirror like with some hair line file lines. These file line are raised lines. It is possible it's been wiped with a cloth of some sort, but because the fine scratches are so random, my gut tells me that it hasn't been cleaned. Hope that made sense...

imo- Probably the result of corrosion from whatever was on the surface before the coin was cleaned.

Just to clarify my statement "acid treated" refers to the die not the coin. The coin has NOT been cleaned using chemical means, it's in MS condition with a mirror like finish in the feilds. The Rev of this coin is http://www.vamworld.com/1878-S+VAM-48 which shows where the die was acid treated.
