Didn't need this one (much like the other ones) but I couldn't resist it. Both lustrous, and well struck, I couldn't resist buying it. Got it at the ANA for under $45....
PCGS at '65, but I think he might go a tick higher in my dreams. The fields are clean.....the devices take a likin' but keep on tickin'......
Bought a partial set of 21 F.E. and Indian Cents on eBay that worked out to $4/coin. Not all the coins are worth $4, but these certainly were! Seller used blurry pics in the listing. You read that right.... I'm into these for $4 each.
I wouldn't have a clue what to post here. To the best of my memory I never paid in excess of $50 for anything I have. The only things that have come into my life lately are pennies. And they cost exactly a penny each. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
I was just looking at Barber halves on Ebay and for anything NEAR that condition the asking was $40 and up. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Which post are you referencing here? I looked through the last four or five pages of the thread and didn't see anybody posting a Barber half; I'd like to make sure I didn't miss it!
No Barber in this thread. But isn't the Barber a newer coin than the one gotten for $23? And the Ebay prices are rather crazy. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Ok I see it was a Morgan dollar. Mayhaps they can be had cheaper for the most part. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
Srsly. This is my gambling addiction. Under-informed sellers (most often on eBay, this time a pawn shop) often mis-price items. Usually, they're too high. Sometimes, they're too low. When they're too low, they go fast, so it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time. In this case, they priced generic worn Morgans at $22+, a bit high, but not crazy. Apparently the only thing they checked for was CC mints. I couldn't believe it when I saw that 1895 date shining out -- I'm no specialist, but I knew all 1893 and 1895 Morgans command a premium. So, a little knowledge, and a lot of luck.
Ah, okay. I think maybe you're focusing on LIBERTY and the eagle wings. On Barber halves, if you can see this much detail in those, you're looking at a VF or better coin, and those aren't cheap. On Morgans, though, LIBERTY is a lot more deeply incuse, and it sticks around even on AG coins. This Morgan was VG at best. All the common dates in this condition would be a bit overpriced at $22. So, yeah, common Morgans with full LIBERTY are definitely cheaper than common Barbers with full LIBERTY. I've had occasional good luck snagging better Barber halves, too, but only as part of larger lots, so it would be a stretch to post them here. My most recent was a 1904-S, badly abused, but with XF details -- but it was a bit over the $50 threshold. I'll eventually post it in another thread, either a new one, or one of the "post your abused/details coins" threads.
I can remember back when I was just getting into coins and only checked for CC's on Morgan Dollars. I shudder to think that I may have let a 93-S or something like that slip thru my fingers.
Best slab ever! I paid a premium for the humor of this one - $3 Pretty sure it's typed on duct tape and I love that it has a serial number
