So am I the last to notice that the 1921 Peace dollar is valued lower in EF than VF :) Obviously a typo ~ gee, does that make my Redbook a print error?

Yeah, Ken Bressett was joking around this summer about a few of the typos in the Red Book. Look under the Strawberry Leaf Large Cent and you will find one too.

what's greysheet? and is it free? is there any place online where I can go to check the value of my coins? instead of buying some retarded book that gets outdated every year?

In the past I've sent Dennis Tucker, Publisher, Whitman Publishing letters with lists of all the errors in the 2006 Edition of the Red Book. Nice replies but most were blown off with an explanation that attempted to sound like no error at all. When the 2007 Edition came out so early I thought it was an attempt to correct the numerous errors. Not so. Then the 2008 Edition came out almost a year ahead of time. Note, this is still 2007 and the 2008 Edition has been out for 5 months. Again, I sent a letter to Whitman concerning now even more errors and again, was basically told not really errors. I've published on coin forums the errors hoping others would also contact Whitman, but still no corrections in sight.
If for any reason you feel that sending them a list of errors may do some good in the future, here is the address:
    Dennis Tucker, Publisher
    Whitman Publishing, LLC
    3101 Clairmont Road, Suite C
    Atlanta, Ga. 30329
    or

As far as I'm concerned it being Aug 2007, the value listed for the 1921 peace dollar for 2008 is most likely as acurate as the rest of the pricing in the book.

The one I know of that is accurate is only for PCGS-graded coins. They have a price-guide on their website. Its actually very accurate (accurate meaning, similar prices to what you'll see on Ebay), but again, only for PCGS-graded coins. I haven't found anything remotely decent online for coins in general.

True .. but it's the first one I've found that the better grade is valued lower than the lower grade.

This is very rarely true. The PCGS price guide lists values that are anywhere from 10% - to 70% too high.

Shouldn't the 2009 edition be coming out soon?

The Redbook publishers are extraordinarily lazy. I guess they know that most collectors will buy it regardless of what they put in it. [I did :headbang:]

I use the REDBOOK only as a guide for the upper limit of a coin I really want badly. If I buy a coin for about 50-60 % of Redbook value then I feel I've gotten a fair enough deal.

The 2009 should be coming out soon. Then the 2010 about next Spring and by Fall of 2008 there will be the 2011 Edition. Whitman is just going nuts with thier issue dates.

EVERY single REDBOOK is replete with Typos, missing pages, and transposed valuations.....

    My first REDBOOK was 1962....

"Again, I sent a letter to Whitman concerning now even more errors and again, was basically told not really errors. I've published on coin forums the errors hoping others would also contact Whitman, but still no corrections in sight."

:headbang: Carl, we've all read your lame "list of errors" before. Stuff like:

    1. "The pages with advertisements on them should be numbered."

DUH, CARL! Look in any other book with ads .... are the ad pages numbered? NO! Here's a hint: if it comes after page 57, and it doesn't have a number... it's page 58!!!

    2. "The 1901 Morgan dollar in MS-65 is worth $200,000, with a mintage of 6,962,000. But the 1884-CC Morgan dollar in MS-65 is only worth $450, and it has a much lower mintage of 1,136,000. Boy, those Whitman editors must be real dummies!"

DUH, CARL! What kind of coin collector are you? Buy a book on Morgan dollars and read it, maybe you'll learn something!

Also, you say you wrote to them about a mistake in the 2008 edition, "but still no corrections in sight!" How the heck are they supposed to fix an error before the next edition comes out? You want em to come over and dab some White-Out in your book, and change a 3 to a 4, or write the page number on the title page, or something?!

And as for each edition being named for the year after... :rolling: For cryin out loud, give it a rest. You harp on that old string every time the Red Book gets mentioned. Is it really that confusing for you?! Every magazine, newspaper, and annual price guide in America is dated in advance! Haven't you ever bought a retail guide for automobiles or stamps or coins or any other old thing?! Don't you see magazines on the stand in October, but they say "November" on them??? It ain't rocket science! And you claim to be a Red Book collector --- you should know the RB has been dated that way for the past 60+ years! It's because the first edition was published so late in 1946, they put a date of 1947 on it; people have told you that, and told you that, on these forums, over and over again.

Carl, you're not naive as you try to make yourself seem, but you do have a lot of learning to do as a coin collector and a book enthusiast.

I have talked to Dennis a few times and he does play stuff down

    here is one of them

    Hi
In your introduction pages of your Red Book I noticed the different hoards your book talks about.
Do you think the U.S. GOVERNMENTS finding of the Carson City Silver Dollars in the 1970's should be included in the hoard section?

There were many dollars lost in the vaults for a long time.

    Rick

    Good morning Rick,

The government's hoards of Morgan dollars, including CC's, are mentioned on page 24 and on pages 27-28. Because of space limitations, we had to keep the discussion general.

    Q. David Bowers's Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, 2nd edition, has a lot of information on these coins.

Thank you for your interest in the Red Book!

    Best wishes,

I just found out that in the 2008 Red Book under Ikes 40% silver Uncirculated and proofs they did not keep the mintage separate between the proof and UNC's like in past issues.
    Example

2007 book 1974-S silver Ike 593,577 in UNC and in Parentheses the proof mintage of 1,306,579
This is the correct way Proof coins are a diffeerent coin then the uncirculated and to take a small mintage of 593,577 and make it look 6x bigger is wrong

Now in the 2008 book they just have 1974-S siver Ike mintage 1,900,156 which is the total of both together, but they also have in Parentheses 1,306,579 which make it look like they minted over 3 million.
