2013 d dime error

I found this today, and was wondering if anybody had some info on it. 2013 d i want to say ddo, not to sure. But you can see the outline of his nose and and mouth. Thanks

First, welcome to the neighborhood @Maddiggity !

Can you post a better close-up, taking the photo from directly overhead instead of at an angle? Once you take the photo, crop out the extraneous background and, then, resize the photo. Also, be sure to use the "Full Image" option when you upload the file. The "Thumbnail" option sucks!

Probably is some garbage, I only noticed it because i was using it as a comaprison piece for a 95. But, hell maybe it's something

 

It is more difficult to see the silhouette of his head, but you can still see the nose basically beginning at the back of the B on liberty. And if I am not wrong, it does look like light doubling on most of the letters...

 

Welcome to the fun here. I don't know what it is. If the profile doubling was closer to each other, I would call it machine doubling. Interesting coin. Can't see anything about the lettering because the image is out of focus.

 

It is kinda messes up. Same exact coin. The double os on the right. If you look at an angle you see more of the face and maybe the lighting is just messing with me about the doubling, but even the heads looks different

 

Do you guys have good ballpark estimates on rarity and grading of coins? I also just fou d a 1959 d lincoln memorial. I'm thinking brown, but pretty good shape... any input would be appreciated.

 

Were you ever able to find anything out about that dime. The only thing I saw that looked similar was a business strike? Thanks

 

It's too blurry for me to tell, but I don't think it is doubling of any kind.

"Pretty good shape" doesn't mean anything where grading is concerned, especially since it is a modern coin. It would have to grade really high to make it worth the cost of grading. You might want to consider buying a book on grading.

I am just comparing it to known examples. Not many graded examples and obviously I am not a numismatic master. I apologize if I offended. There are many details that an untrained and uneducated eye can miss. My bad, and I appreciate the help.

Yeah, just looked up some lingo, and the best any of those coins could be would be an AU58. That business strike comment as well was incorrect, I didn't know what it meant and was only trying to use the style as an example. Sorry again, didn't mean to insult anyone.

 

The guys are just trying to help you is all. No one is offended, and you seem to genuinely want to learn, which is what most here hope for. All is well.

 

Thanks, i was just a bit overwhelmed, i had like 6000 coins to go through. It was quite the undertaking, i think i found some good ones though, that dime is still driving me crazy with curiosity though. I couldn't find a thing on the internet about it.

I fear you're finding little information due to the coin not likely being what you're hoping for, but keep in mind I say this "looking in from the outside" so to speak. I simply can't see the coin well enough to determine exactly what it is, even if I do think I see what you're questioning. I'm thinking that what this may be is simply a clash that just happens to somewhat mimic the position of the nose, possibly coupled with a few well-placed hits or noise, but again, I just can't see well enough to say. If you look closely at a dime reverse, comparing it to the obverse, and imagine the dies coming together without a planchet in between, I think you'll know what I mean. That said, perhaps @Fred Weinberg will stop in to share whatever opinions he may have.

This all is a learning process, and please trust me when I say it doesn't happen overnight. The fact is that no one, not a single person involved in this hobby, knows everything, and if anyone tells you otherwise, I promise you that they're lying. Take your time and learn at your own speed. Ask whatever questions you may have and do so without caring what someone else may say. As long as you're sincere and trying to learn, no one worthwhile will look down upon you and the majority here will likely go out of their way to help. Welcome to the forum, sir.

 

Thank you, much appreciated. I have one final question, and I have already ordered the numismatics grading scale book Chris suggested, how would I determine the grade of a proof. I've seen some pr70 and pr69 68 so on and so forth that show little difference. I get there are flaws that go unnoticed by most, but I just want an idea of the quality of a coin
