I have a 1965 mint set and the Kennedy Half is rotated right at 180 deg. It is still in the original wrapping. Would like to know if anyone would know the approximate value of this set. I am a newbie and my first post. Appreciate all replies.
Are you saying that the coin was struck normally, but is rotated in the mint packaging, or that the coin was struck with dies rotated 180 degrees out of coin alignment?
There are some 1965 SMS Kennedy's that I've seen before that feature a heavily rotated die on the reverse is that what you have?
Yes, that is what I have. But it isn't a single coin. it is an that cellophane wrap with the other U.S, coins;
The value is really only in that Kennedy barring any cameo coinage for the other coins present. Although the error does have value, exactly what it could bring is really a question mark as that type of error and coin needs to have a very specific type of buyer who wants it. Here's a site that sold a rotated 1965' SMS for $100 apparently http://www.lccoins.com/additional-v...-kennedy-half-135-degree-cw-rotated-dies.html Then there's this person asking $989 for an opening bid for one MS66 NGC on Ebay (granted no bidders so apparently and my opinion also is that, that asking price is way too high) http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RARE-...641436?hash=item46608e2e5c:g:fVsAAOSwWxNYzzk2 That being said I'd estimate it's value could be anywhere from $100 to perhaps $300-400 if you could find the exact right buyer and it was certified. That's depending on the condition of the coin itself of course. Do you have any pictures of the coin in question?
The 1965 Special Mint Set is know for the Kennedy half dollar displaying a rotated die in several different degrees much like the Kennedy half in the 1988 Mint Sets. In our set, linked here, we have a few examples of the coin with different degrees of rotation: https://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/showcase/2045 Value, depends on condition (grade), MS-65 for $100 - $175 and MS-67 $400 - $500 would be my guess but like anything if you find the "right" buyer it is what ever he is willing to pay.
