I don't know how the U.S. mint online order system works for ordering/fulfillment but I know other supposed real time retail fulfillment systems in situations where too many orders come in at once can actually oversell available product. In this type of situation later orders will be cancelled because they can't be fulfilled, hopefully this is not the case. Perhaps the mint allows the authorization to expire and then charges when actually shipping back ordered items when they're available.

Just chatted with a US mint person. Backorders should still ship out once the fulfillment center gets them. Unknown when that might happen. If they haven't actually produced the coins, then it could be a while. I will probably ask the same question tomorrow to see if it get a different answer. At this point, I'm a little worried...

I also hope this is not the case. I have not heard of this happening in the past with the Mint's newer system, even in the frantic mad dash releases. However, we haven't had a recent situation where there is a possibility of multiple people trying to buy 10,000's all at once on something with only 75,000 examples. Hopefully this is just a temporary delay.

While I'm all for how the mint releases these hot items and makes it a race to see if you get an order in time or not, if they cancel small orders due to over ordering rather than knock off a few hundred or whatever of a large buyer or smaller amounts from multiple large buyers that would be seriously wrong.

I would not be a happy camper if this was the case. I'll continue to monitor my order. I did have something else in the order so they may have just zeroed out the total of the S-proofs so it can process and ship my other item. The S-proof is still listed in the order, just with a $0.00 amount.

The demand likely will be higher than usual, unless it is minted to demand. As soon as that happens the excitement goes away and it feels to common for a lot of people to get excited.

There is nothing illegal about not having a household order limit. They will do nothing and should do nothing.

I think it did happen to some extent with one of the baseball commems. I may be remembering wrong but want to say some were canceled for the gold for being over ordered

Considering my online experience in trying to buy only one, I would believe that is a definite possibility.

Of course not. That might cut into some folks' swinish way of making easy money, wouldn't it.

I am done with the Mint.

You're not talking to a "US Mint person", you are talking to a Memphis distribution center person and they don't know jack squat. In the past I've gotten 3 different answers from 3 different reps. They can tell you about YOUR order but the rest is just pure speculation.

There doesn't have to be anything illegal, like I said above, mismanagement is a legit referral. As for nothing illegal, you never know what an inquiry might uncover.

Having worked for the Treasury Dept, I've seen Inspector General investigations first hand and they're not pretty. They take allegations of wrong doing AND INCOMPETENCE seriously. It's what they do, so finding incompetence/corruption is a feather in their hat (or a promotion).

Selling out a product is not incompetence. You are trying to get a legal investigation simply because you are not happy that you missed out on something. This type of reasoning is the epitome of what is wrong with the legal system today. There is nothing illegal or incompetent about not having an order limit and absolutely no one should be trying to get the IG to start a fishing expedition.

There is absolutely nothing legitimate about what you are hoping happens

Well. My order shipped minus the Congratulations sets... :-/ Those are still listed as "backordered". I wonder if I'll have to pay shipping again if they do ship later...

Hey, I got my order in. I'm just tired of this game/incompetence or whatever it is with the mint. We're all entitled to our opinions, I filed a complaint, you do your thing.

Please stop complaining about gaming the system, or submitting complaints to the Treasury Department or Inspector General.

We all know the game. WE can't beat them, so let's join them. The Bullion Exchange (Since 2013) and others use common sense, speed and leverage.
    1. They identify a high demand item with either low mintage or no limits (Common Sense).

    2. They have all their friends or staff log on 11:59am EDT using a GUEST ACCOUNTS and refresh the page until the item is available (Speed). They may even use PHP scripts or other scripts for speed.

    3. They leverage their grandmother, baby momma, Joe from the Deli or whoever has credit card (Leverage).

    Final Note:

I recommend the complainers call the mint's customer service and ask them, "What is the maximum order amount for a RETAIL, single credit card purchase?" For Bulk Purchases the MAX amount for credit card is $24,999. My guess is it's the same or less. I would suspect one could only purchase <500 Sets.

Even at a max of 450, that still doesn't leave many available when you presume dealers and flippers maxing out their buying ability to get as many as possible. If you have just a few mass buyers online with multiple accounts, these get sucked up pretty quick. Large dedicated buyer could still grab 1,000's of these relatively easily, especially if shipping addresses don't have to be different. The order number spread so far from members here is relatively small, around 500.

My order is still in limbo at this point. Hoping I don't get bumped off the back of the wagon.

The big boys get large amounts no matter what the order limit is. Allowing them to get them all directly actually probably suppressed the aftermarket price some in all honesty. When they have to buy from a middle man that middle man wants to make a profit and their costs go up and charge more.

There's never been an issue they wanted that they didn't get no matter the order limit. Think of what a disaster the gold kennedy was with the limit of 1 and people being paid to stand in line for hours. I would rather have no limit than a repeat of that fiasco. There is probably a nice middle ground with a limit of 100-200 or so.

I agree baseball. 100 Limit would have been perfect.

you guys are lucky that got one.
I only wanted one to go with my other 2016 Congratulations.

I was online too but it never gave me the option to buy one.
Now it's nearly 2x to buy it in the aftermarket. :(

You're right about the credit card limits by the way. Out of curiosity I tried to put as many of the gold coins in my cart as I could. The site itself only let you put a 100 as a quantity but then rejected that anyway because it was over the 25k limit and said you needed to call for that type of purchase.
