http://cgi.ebay.com/Lincoln-Wheat-C...tcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem What do you think of this, my first thought was... he rubbed the date off, or, could this actually be an error?
Pretty honest description, the pics aren't big enough to really see though. Not really my thing either.
That's a crock of crap! If you look closely at the picture of that coin you can almost make out the date. You can definately see the "19" and the last digit looks like it might be an "8". The date was most likely just rubbed off years ago either deliberately or just through circulation. I don't think it's a rare error coin and people are bidding way too high on it. Some people just have nothing better to do than waste their money!
He's obviously lying when he says he can't see any date even under magnification since the 1 and 9 can plainly be seen in the pictures he put with the auction. However, other than that, he's not claiming it's some ridiculously valuable coin and the idiots that are actually bidding this thing this high deserve the rip they get. He's sure to get a negative feedback on this one, even though in this instance I feel it's inappropriate since you can clearly see the 1 and 9 on the coin. Jasn
I can see the 1 and the 9 also. I think its a scam and a waste of the winners money, but, thats what you get if you know nothing about what you're bidding on. Its the bidders responsibility to educate him or herself about what they're buying. Less chance of getting ripped off...like in this auction. The second picture I posted shows it even better, if you put your arrow on the picture, down in the bottom right hand corner should be a box you can click on to make the photo bigger.
You must be using a different browser.. I'm on internet explorer 7 .. and I can't ... but i know what your talking about i've seen that option in other browsers like mozilla
I am using Mozilla and do not have a clue what he is talk about. The top picture will enlarge anywhere I click on it, but there is nothing I can find anywhere on the bottom one to enlarge it.
Im sorry then, I thought that if I could enlarge the picture then that option would be there for everyone else. Thats how much I know about computers....lol.
I would say at the very best it is a grease filled die error, but I would not think it is worth the $50 bid thats on it. I don't like the corrosion and the green spots either.
Looking at your blown up image I can almost make out the entire date. I think it's either 1944 or 1948. I wouldn't give $5 for that coin let alone $50+!
I also see a diagonal date, left to right; _923. Don't quite know what to make of it, but $50-Idon't think so.
