Why are toned coins so popular?

Okay Doug, promise not to faint. I agree with you that the Oregon shown is AT, and I would not want that coin in my collection. There are too many fantastically toned Oregon's that don't carry the same question about the originality of toning to get buried in that coin.

Btw, who let Ricko in here? Did he get tired of bashing toning on the PCGS forum?;)

I think this particular toned coin is beautiful & full of character compared to the white coin.

Well, more so than any other area, but it still requires access to the ambient gases, which will vary by position in the bags.

Bottom line up front...because people just absolutely (see's something on the ground)...oh SHINNY!!! are easily distracted by the rainbow colors. They are just appealing to the eye. The colors just stick out and people go oooooohhhh...aaaawwwwww....I am jelly!!!! Basically this is why people love toned coins. Case closed....

Speaking of coins in canvas, what does a $100 bag of Kennedy halves look like to a TSA agent? It looks like a cause for "enhanced manual inspection".

It's something I'll never understand. You look for a perfect coin that looks like it came from the mint press 5 minutes ago (MS65-70), but then accept other than the color it was manufactured with.

    Yep!

Do we really need to keep throwing this "argument" back and forth?
To each his own, right? How about, "Let's move on already"
