Now why would people not like you and your "matte" VDB? Do you really wanna open up that can if worms again? You tell me....
Not On This Tread Please...Anyway, I just like having really nice coins that's all and if my coins are a little different from everyone else's then that don't bother me I like being different...LP
What did YOU do to PCGS, Larry? Perhaps I missed something, but I don't recall any real offenses towards them, especially considering their public treatment of you. On the other hand, just consider the source of the post in question. That said, your Peace certainly isn't real and I am quite sure you already know that. It is a fine "fantasy piece" though, so feel free to enjoy it regardless of what any member of the fanhood may say or think.
I understand...Also you could never know if it's real unless the US Mint gets involved...Like I said I would LOVE to see it in a slab...But knowing they aren't supposed to exist why would I want to get in trouble for a lie that got told in 1964..???
Thanks Micbraun: This is how I look at it...(MY THOUGHTS) Just say Tom ,Dic,and Harry worked at the mint in 1964...They were told that they could buy #5 coins each...Well,thinking that it were going to be tons of them Tom goes and put a full tank of gas in his car (Coins put into Circulation) Dic takes his family out for Icecream (Coins put into Circulation) and Harry wanted to impress his family with his work at the Mint and pass a few to his family or friends (Coins put into Circulation) Now the next day are so the Mint says we need all the coins back THAT IS NO GOOD...Well the remainder of the coins came back and the one that didn't stayed in Circulation and the rest got melted with some regular dates to make weight for melt...The World Will Never Know The True Story so with that said I'm just impressed to have one that doesn't look like a DC Coin...Anyway,Who knows I just might see Mr Hall one day and give him the chance to see it..It might leave an impression on him just by knowing it's not being a DC Coin...Thanks Again,LP....!!!!!
Ticket agent: Can I see your boarding pass, please? Poster: Sorry, let me dig it out from under these pipe bombs and machine guns... Ticket agent: Oh, you must be looking for the Carr thread, Gate 27.
Seems to me all talk has been on the subject of 64 Peace "fantasy" tokens, so what's the problem? You have repeatedly shown the fact that you couldn't care less about genuinely "hijacking" threads started by others in order to both shamelessly promote Carr copies, and to belittle anything even remotely similar to them, so why the sniffles? Perhaps, when you learn to do unto others, the courtesy will be retuned.
It ok as you're new. This thread is about Carr 64d peace dollars. Please start creating new threads about stuff you would like to talk about. Its somewhat ok this time as we're still talking about other fantasy 64d peace dollars but it could create confusion to future readers in terms of legitimate high-quality Carr overstrikes and counterfeit Chinese crap with sub-par quality struck on blank planchets... Huge difference.
C'mon Chris, your 64D overstrike is "high quality" while his coin is "Chinese crap" - I think in all fairness you shouldn't forget that both coins are not original - one way or another.
I can tell from this pic that it's a cast fake. Note the porrous surfaces. If you have questions, make your own thread about it.
Yes, these Chinese counterfeit things struck on blank usually pot metal planchets or simply cast in a mould and pounded out by the tens of thousands and of such low quality it's pathetic are crap. Dan uses finely honed artistic skills, a retired US Mint press, actual coins as planchets and produces them with the highest quality in limited numbers. What about that dichotomy (word of the day) is hard to understand?
Do notice how "it's okay as you're new", yet if you did as he suggests and started your own thread, he wouldn't think twice about "hijacking" and trying to turn it into a Carr thread just as he has many times before. Welcome to the hypocrisy and nonsense that all too often defines CT. Also, do note how the insults fly (in response to @micbraun) when anyone dares to inject logic and reason into such threads. Lovely, isn't it?
To my knowledge, no Denver Mint employee has ever come forward stating that they actually purchased 1964 Peace Dollars and/or were subsequently asked to return them. I personally do not believe that story. Denver Mint employees were allowed to purchase the new 1964-D Kennedy Half Dollars, but never the 1964 Peace Dollars. The date on your specimen appears to be somewhat crudely formed, unlike genuine US Mint coins from that era. Here is a non-silver Chinese piece that is less than about 10 years old. It has a similar crudeness to the date digits, although the sizes and shapes are a bit different on yours: Here is one that matches yours exactly: The coin above is one of several exactly like it being offered on eBay at present. So no, you did not find your "1964" Peace 30 years ago. You just recently acquired it because it is a recent Chinese manufacture.
As I read the post, the two images were of two different fakes, with the second one closely matching the one Larry posted.
