My grandmother collected United States coins but somehow had this 48 page foreign coin buying catalog.

Premium Catalog of Modern Foreign Coins was published in 1948 by S. Kellogg Stryker, a prominent stamp dealer, for the use of tourists or returning World War II service men and women who brought back foreign coins as souvenirs.

    General Information

This catalog gives a brief outline of the minimum prices we pay for modern foreign coins, issued in the last 50 to 75 years, and covers those pieces most generally found in accumulations of foreign coins such as that brought into the United States by world travelers, or returning army or navy personnel.

The collecting of foreign coins by coin collectors in the United States is largely confined to gold pieces and crown size silver (crown size is a generalized term denoting a coin of about the size of a U.S. silver dollar).

The demand for smaller silver pieces and minor coins is limited and the supply rather large; over 100,000 foreign coins are removed yearly from the New York City subway turnstiles.

What I find fascinating is the trade in gold coins that are still considered as bullion even now. Like British sovereigns, Swiss 20 francs etc. I'd sure like to find a 1923 Soviet Chervonetz at $20:D

Weimar 5 marks for $0.65-$1.50!! Now most of them go for closer to $500 than $100. Even fine is $70.

Some of them go for higher. I know. I collect all stuff related to the Zeppelins.

I sent the book to the Newman Numismatic Portal on October 30, 2017 and they have added it to their online database.

The book is now on the Newman Numismatic Portal of St. Louis, MO at the following link:
