Yah, this 4th auction-win was another random, but awesome addition!! I fell in love with this coin when I took my first pass-through the auction, but because it is a bit outside my "usual extremely rigid collection-limits" I didn't put it on my first pass target-list ... ... but when it was still in play during the final moments, I hunkered-down, took careful aim and then pulled the coin-trigger!! => "BANG!!" .... $150 estimate ... but I scored it for a $95 hammer!! https://cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=332648 Please welcome a super cute coin-addition and my first "wire money" example ... Congrats @stevex6 ! NICE clear example of wire money! I know nothing of it, as it is clearly out of my also. HOWEVER, I did the same sometime ago, I captured a Wire Money example "just to have one". My pic is horrible, cuz it is small, and I am not @dougsmit... Russia Peter the Great AR Kopek 1682-1725 Wire Money Horse Rider - Great Tsar Peter 11.1mm 0.27g LOL, too funny. Odd in my collection search: I searched my JPEG database for "Peter" and the only other coin that came up besides this one, was the Bruttium Carthage Occupation coin with your name on it!
ahaha ... "Peter" ... better than showing-up on the "Dick" search!! Hey, thanks for posting your wire money example ... => I hope that you have a great Saturday, my coin-friend!!
LOL, I thought that was one and the same??? Have a wonderful day too! We finally got sunshine, so I may go see my Grandkids!
Now that is a lovely little coin. I think I have something contemporary and somewhat similar. This one is actually blast-white and lustrous in hand.
Thanks for the comments ... oh, and thanks for posting your cool example, TypeCoin (I appreciate your coin-effort)
oh wow, that's awesome....i had no idea wire money was made outside of russia. it's a relatively large coin compared to the russian versions, was it actually made of cut pieces of "wire" like the russian coins? the toning is lovely as well. here's some of my russian wire money...

It's from Lithuania - Sigismund ("II - of Luxembourg" - I think - as King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania) Although I hate to suggest it, this coin doesn't quite look right - the detail and relief seems too high for a coin of the era. Most likely struck with roller-dies, the technique produces nice smooth edges, but didn't typically impart much relief to thinner coins. I'm by no means any expert, however. Perhaps someone else here could weigh-in with an opinion on whether this looks "right" for the mid 16th century? I have a similar piece ND, ca. 1492-1506, for Alexander I with a lot less detail in the relief portions - although that one might be hand-struck, half a century earlier. Hopefully someone here knows more about this class of coin. I could photograph my piece if it's of interest to anyone.
[/QUOTE] @TypeCoin971793 , if there are questions, perhaps if it is not known in the Ancients forum, perhaps posting in the World Coins forum?
I can add another photo of a piece of wire-money, however... Not Really "Ancient", but it is interesting to see how this AR "Wire-Money" Denga of Ivan "The Terrible", c. 1450 AD. 8mm x 10mm, 0.32g. was produced by methods nearly indistinguishable from those used by ancient civilizations millennia earlier in Eastern Europe.
