WOULD ANYONE KNOW WHAT A ALMOST COMPLETE UNGRADED SET OF MORGAN DOL LARS WOULD BE VALUED AT? THIS SET IS IN 2 MAHOGANY COIN DISPLAY BOXES /W EACH COIN IN A 2X2 HOLDER. COINS ARE VERY NICE AND ONLY MISSING 85CC,&89CC PLUS 3 OTHER RARE COINS. ALL COINS HAVE BEEN DIP CLEANED AND LOOK VERY NICE, BUT I GUESS WOULD NOT BE GRADABLE DUE TO DIPPING, AND WOULD PROBABLY BE VERY COSTLY( /W THE NOTIFICATION OF CLEANED ON LABEL,TO BOOT) THIS SET IS OWNED BY AN OLDER GENTLEMAN IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD HE IS ASKING ABOUT 10 G'S BUT IT IS A NICE SET. THE SETBACK IS THEY WERE DIPPED AT ONE POINT AND I KNOW THEY SAY NEVER CLEAN COINS,BUT THIS IS A REAL NICE SET.ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED THANKS RICHIE ONE MORE THING THERE ARE ABOUT 20 EXTRA COINS /W THIS SET (DOUBLES)
It all depends. I'm guessing the other missing ones are 93s, 94p and 79cc or 1901p. If they are all details coins count them up and multiply by 20 so probably $2k +/- without seeing the set
THANK YOU VERY MUCH I THOUGT THEY WOULD BE WORTH MORE MAYBE IF I LEARN TO POST PICTURES I'LL SEND THEM FOR ANALYSTS THANKS AGAIN RICHIE
I have been watching the prices of Morgans on EBay recently because I have been buying a few from my favorite seller. In grade VF they are going for $18-20, XF for $22-25, AU-Unc for $25-$30 and BU $30-35. This is for common dates. I have not seen to many of the rarer ones where I have been looking. From this you have probably get a ballpark figure. Given that they have been cleaned they will have to be sold at a discount.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH THE COINS THAT ARE MISSING ARE ALL THE SUPER RARE ONES . I'LL PROBABLY MAKE AN OFFER TO THE GENTLEMAN AND HOLD ON TO THE SET IF I GET IT. THANKS FOR YOU OPNION
I think he's gonna be in for a rude awakening if he is hoping for near 10k. I think like mentioned above something around $20-$25 per coin is about what is fair for both the buyer and seller. If what you say about buying them to hold onto for your collection is true and you like the coins then go for it, but if you're hoping to make money buying all these I would say that's a hard pass. Good luck.
I have the feeling that this 2 boxed set was originally a commercial offering , either on TV or periodicals from the past when it was easier to hoodwink the unknowing. I suspect the 8 grand difference would not go well as he may be in for much more than that. I would tell him, to pick a nice coin and have it graded by PCGS or NGC , so he could see himself the results, and use a current source to see the going price. If you really think it is a good deal, offer to go halvsies on the cost. Jim
I think that old man was pulling your leg when he said 10 G. Make him an honest offer he can't refuse. 18-20 bucks a coin. Dave
If the coins won't grade due to cleaning, I would tell the gentleman to keep his set. Sounds to me like you are buying a headache.
Thanks , Ri Thanks, I really like this set, as I see on ,Ebay, looks like 80% of Morgans are cleaned, and asking more than $25.00 che
Who wants an ungraded set with all the key dates missing? Maybe try to sell them 1 at a time for maximum profit. The title of this thread is fictitious.
You came here asking for help. You quoted an auction on EBay as evidence and refuse to post a link, telling people to do their own search. Okay, so go away and do your own research on this set and quit wasting people's time here.
I bought a very similar set but with the 94p using bad incomplete pics for $3k a year or two ago. A total gamble. Well a few were conditional rarities that graded well and a lot were high grade. It was a set in blue Whitman folders put together in the 60s or 70s and just forgotten about. I sold a bunch for $9k and kept a couple thousand worth. This though in no way should entice the OP to buy his set. His set sounds like a dog unfortunately.
