1919 Dime Doubled Die Obverse ( whats the story on this )

i went around a few shop(s) yesterday and started talking about double die(s). and he said this is like a newly discovered doubling .... how come it took till now to discover this and what is the market like ( besides telling me at what someones willing to pay )

Not so new, it was discovered a few years ago

 

I think it was a little more than 1-1/2 years ago, wasn't it?

why did it take so long? in skimming one of your links it says only 10 are known to exist. not to mention the coin has to pass through the hands of someone that actually looks for this stuff. there may be hundreds of people that have this coin mixed in with their merc rolls/flips that don't search errors. and there it lies until that person sells their collection or is passed down years later and so on. as far as wanting to know what something is worth... check ebay under sold listings like I did.
