Hey guys. I want to send off a few coins to PCGS to get graded, but the closest dealer that submits them is a 2 hour drive from here. Any other wayto other than through dealers?
Cody: Join the PCGS club, I did it at Milwaukee and there are several levels of membership. For $199, you get 8 free submissions. that saves you $40 on the eight submissions.
Milwaukee show was really fun. Although, I did not get many coins there, and everyone wanted full retail, and retail was over trends, aside from that it was great. I did manage to get three upgrades: Barber dimes: 1909 S AU-50+, upgrade from a F-12, and that one I bought in October, 2002 1897 O, Unc (MS-60+) Upgrade from a VF-35, that I have been using since Sept. 2001. (Just to get an idea of how hard it is to get nice pieces for a high grade set, trying to put together a raw set, in all AU+. Perhaps I'll never be finished.) Barber Quarters: only one: 1907 S, VF-30. replaced a VG-8, that has been holding the spot since April, 2005. Although a higher mintage (1,360,000) I have found that it is extremely underrated. I have bought everyone that I have seen without problems for years, and only have #11 pieces, and of those 7 are AG or commercial goods. And only 2 are VG. (No fines). A very underrated date. I overpaid for it, $80 vs trends of $75, but, I have never seen another. The ANA dinner was also very nice, I got another special edition Guide Book for my collection. And had Ken Bressett sign it for me. I also added a signed (Yeoman) 4th edition, and a 26th edition Blue Book-- signed by Yeoman to a contributor. All in all, a very nice two days.
I just recently joined the Collectors Society for $99. I now have direct submission privileges to NGC, NCS, PMG (paper money), and CGC (comic books). I also got a coupon for 5 free earlybird (12 days) submissions to NGC. I'm almost ready to submit some coins...just need one more to use up the coupon.
You could also buy a silver membership with PCGS for $50. It's good for a year but you don't get any free submissions.
I'll go along with that. May sound like a lot of money but if you want to have something graded, that is the easiest method. Of course as already noted you should first list the coins here. Very possibly not worth having graded at all.
Im probibly going to go with the NGC deal. The coins i want graded are; The toned buffalo in this post: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=27999 A 1935 Merc With clashed dies, i think its a MS-67 FSB. A 1962 proof franklin. A 1962 cameo proof nickel. And im sure i could find one more somewhere
Good idea. If I was you I would join the ANA, there a deal going on where you get 2 years for the price of one (it might of expired a few days ago, or in a few days). With the ANA you will be able to submit. This is what I did. BTW, there's a minimum of 5 coins if you don't want to pay through the nose with the Early Bird grading teir.
