I assume you mean a doubled die, but I can't figure out why. You'll need to post a better close-up.

Actually, it looks like a scrape of some sort to me.

You need to use better lighting. It's better to have at least two light sources positioned at about 10 & 2 o'clock at a 45 degree angle to the subject. So, when you position your camera directly overhead the subject, light will bounce away from the lens.

Once you've taken the photo, you need to crop out all of the extraneous background and resize the image. Then when you are ready to post the image here, be sure to use "Full Image" rather than "Thumbnail". I don't know why CT doesn't get rid of the "Thumbnail" option. It's stupid and wastes time.

That's the thing about so many errors. They are one-of-a-kind, so it isn't uncommon for an error to go unnoticed. Be sure to keep us posted when you get it back. I'd like to know what it is.

Will do. I have to sign up to one of 2 grading places first. I rather send it in then let them.

Keep in mind that just because they are Coin Shop owners that they may not necessarily know what Mint Errors are. If one needed to look at the computer websites to see what it could be that is evidence that he has no knowledge. Could be a simple Planchet Flaw or even a kind of Clash. Nothing worth sending to a Third Party Grader. Especially in the condition it is in... That issue has nothing to do with a Doubled Die

Your coin is what's called a die clash. I have quite a few of them too.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that you send it to one of the grading services. It would probably cost more than the coin would be worth. I thought you meant that you would send it to one of the error reference sites for attribution. It's much, much cheaper.

I have a nickel that has a "smoke stack" in the same area. Mine is a die clash, it's the pony tail of the obverse.

Also, I have seen the same die clash but with the entire head visible, going for $15 which wouldn't be worth sending it for grading at those costs..Just my opinion.

Like which sites? I found an 1966 quarter that weighs 6. I weigh others and 5.67?
