How many errors/issues can you spot? What is the proper term for each? Hint: This is a very lustrous BU coin.
I think I see a tilited collar maybe?? Maybe a strike though on the lower portion of hair?? And then a deviated septum
The Kennedy may truly have an error or two but it's too badly worn for it to be worth more than 50 cents. Please, correct me if I'm wrong because I'm here to learn just like the next guy. BTW, what kind of error is the nose job?
Well its actually not worn at all, its a bright brilliant uncirculated coin. You are correct in your assessment of value though, im not gonna retire from the proceeds of the sale
I've not a clue how hat was ever allowed to leave the Mint. I'm unconvinced that it's all as-struck, but enough of it is to lead me to believe that it may have been struck by the Kennedy equivalent of the last strikes from the 1922 No D Lincoln dies.
Yea im no Kennedy expert, but ive looked at enough of them to know that this one is very strange indeed. Who else could i even summons for this? How about @cpm9ball @cladking @Ethan @geekpryde Boy im really scraping the barrel w this one: @Rick Stachowski
Most of what I see appears to be the result of a grease-filled die, but there is evidence of a clash along Kennedy's lip & chin from the tips of the feathers. I don't know what caused the "bad nose job". Chris
The thing's kindda a mess. I suspect it's what is typically called a die adjustment piece. Most of these are produced from a press coasting to a stop. Something's going on at the nose but I'm not sure what.
I have stared at your coin for a long time. I feel that it could be some sort of Planchet Flaw that just happened to be in the exact area where the nose was struck.. Just guessing though
I haven't a clue ? Strike though, ejection issues from the chamber, only Heavy could come up with a specimen like this
Duplicate post. I was distracted by a local news report. Re-edit - It was so bad I edited the wrong post.
I don't think so. The bridge of the nose has been nearly obliterated. A clash wouldn't do that. Chris
Well thats what i thought but man it sure is extreme isnt it? Im guessing it lines up, so yea, anyone have an overlay?
Paddy, please explain how the leaves of the olive branch can make the bridge of the nose disappear. Have you ever looked at the strong clashes on Liberty's nose on Morgan dollars? I think you're wrong. Chris
Ok, i think ive found a very useful webpage. Thanks 4 the tip paddy54 ! I typed into the search bar @ mad die clashes and came across this page. http://www.maddieclashes.com/atypical-die-clash-u-s-fifty-cent/ My coin isnt there but '83p was and its obvious that this is a clash albeit a very strong one, that was abraded to remove most of the other evidence. The part that is most mysterious about this is: how is a recessed part of the die so distorted after said clash event ????? @mikediamond what say ye?
