Ok found this 2000 D Roosevelt; Pretty bad shape but still in the learning stage I gonna stick my neck out again to ask if I indeed found something. (still fun though). As I look at the D it seems to me that the inside curve is tilted to the West at the bottom inside, then as I look along the main outside edge the bottom of this line tilts at about the same angel. So did I find something or just wishful thinking? Expert eyes as usual required here please. Have a couple more I need to post but being a glutton for punishment, will do those separately. Thank you with all gratitude.
One important thing you should try to do is post pictures of both side of any coin you may have a question about. That will also help in determining the attribution.
Wishful thinking, unfortunately. I forget the cut off date (for dimes) when RPMs (repunched mintmark) were no longer possible (due to no longer being hand punched) but was well before 2000. @Conder101 may know.
http://writingexplained.org/verbage-vs-verbiage-difference I always thought it was verbage. Even in college ROTC they pronounced it verbage when they were yelling at you.
It probably made them spit in an uncouth and ungentlemanly way. "If it moves, salute it. If it doesn't, paint it." Chris
Morning , just on the first cup and figured that it was not an RPM; but had it been, it would have been the first one that I got right. I get all confused when it comes to this double die and such, if it does not stand out and bite me then I just do not know. Takes a long time to train the eye to pick up such things I recon. Till then I will just keep looking and hoping , BUT did get this one right, even though it was wrong, so I am proud of me LOL. Have a couple more coins, that I must go back and take a photo of the reverse of one and obverse of the other. Read and re-read several articles on double dies that are such and ones that are not. Now, do not know nor ever heard of the term "post date mm hand punch" ... is this a thing or just a little verbiage between friends? Any way I look at it, I am having a fun time and enjoying it. I thank you all so very much for the kind help and for sharing and instruction.
Hand punching the MM into the die stopped in the late 80's, from that point on, the mm cannot be evaluated individually, it has to be evaluated with the whole obv and rev. of the coin.
The correct terminology is Doubled Die..not Double Quote - "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology." closed quote I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die Peace
Now that I get, I confuse easily, sorry ... just ask my wife and daughters who are sort of permanent fixture here almost ... lol
